Hiking thread

You calling him a fat ****….

Of to do Crib Goch this morning, done once before but couldn’t see more than 2 feet in front, was madness when I think about it!!
How did Crib Goch go? Looked a lot of low cloud from where we were on Anglesey. Did 18.5 miles of the coastal path from Newborough way to Beaumaris. Long slog.

Was great mate, cloudless from where we were and could see the coast, busy as fuck near the summit so sacked that off, walked back down Llanberris were the fell runners were racing up, some big event going on, now I do a fair bit of running but the bottom where they started from is brutal and hard enough walking down never mind running up!!!

Looking at doing Sharp edge on Blencathra in a couple of weeks.

There was a fatality on there recently.

I’m not surprised, you have to take care all the way. Just as we were about to start it we had some Asian family come up to us asking how to get to the summit, we explained they’re already on the pyg track and just continue along, the mum wanted to go Crib and we politely but firmly told her she wouldn’t be capable of it and to just go the way the were, thankfully the teenager son agreed with us and said he would not go that way.

Plenty on hikes with no idea of where they’re actually going, correct gear and it’s idiotic to say the least.

Just to clarify, the recent incident I referred to was on Sharp Edge / Blencathra.

Crib Goch is notorious. Once saw 2 bodies winched off there by a Sea King.

Couldnt have picked a busier day. Snowdon mountain race on here yesterday.

Anyone recommend a decent backpack for hiking, need to carry a couple of liters of water in it for the dogs, comfy as possible.
I have an army rucksack which I think is ideal. It’s robust, is well padded and has multiple fasten points so it’s comfortable to wear and secure on you.

I put weights in it when walking, wear it on my bike, not a hint of a thread pulled out of situe yet and I’ve had it five years.

Cheers mate looks ideal Xmas present for me I think.

Decided to do Striding edge today on Helvellyn, pissed it down to begin with then had sun and wind all the way to the top, great day for it and not too busy.

Great pictures, the one of the valley is breathtaking. I’ve walked only a couple of hills in the lakes and that was a few years ago with work friends. Some stunning views.

I love Striding Edge. There are certain parts that make you worried, careful is perhaps a better word but the rain can change careful to worried :-)
I've just realised, I've always gone up Striding Edge, never down. I wonder why.

Did Snowdon on 19th June and it was fucking hard and fucking roasting. That was my first ever hike up a mountain. Got Pen-y-Fan and Ben Nevis on my to do list next and then on to the lakes.
Pen-y-fan next Sunday morning in the dark to catch the sun rise. Can’t wait.

@Cityfan and others....
On page 16 I asked about walking the coast of Portugal.
I've just booked 9 days walking the Rota Vicentina which incorporates the
Fishermans Trail. 11 days including travel in October.
I land at Lisbon and then a bus to Porto Covo, walk to the Penisula and then a 4 hour bus ride back to Lisbon.

I've only booked flights and the bus. The rest I'll make up as I go along.
