Hiking thread

Me and wifey are on a practice run for our campervan week in Pembrokeshire and are in the Shropshire Hills for the night
Got to the campsite, set up then went on a stunning five mile walk to Bishop's Castle, had a beer and walked back

This is our view
Planning on opening the doors in the morning, making a brew and drinking it in bed looking at that hill

Me and the missus doing the great ridge/Mam Tor tomorrow morning. We've got into getting out walking since lockdown and luckily we've got quite a few decent walks near us living in hawk Green near marple. We've done 30 miles this week and we're kick starting this week with tomorrow's trip to the Peak District.

A couple of years ago Mrs KS made me do this walk because health problem meant my days were numbered for walking. Twas great, except that it was the hottest day since for ever.
The pub at the bottom near the station soon put me right.
Sadly my legs have now packed up.

Has anyone ever done the Pennine Way walk?

268 miles.

Im thinking I might try it one Summer.

I did Edale to Malham in 1976!! Yep, 45 years ago!! I was going through a bad patch after a nasty divorce and took a week .... unfortunately, although '76 was one of the hottest summers on record I chose a week when it rained for 3 days solid so came home after 3 nights camping out in the wilderness (and rain!) and 1 night in a B & B!
It was before it became as popular as it is now and before the 'sophistication' of the paths! I ended up in a bog up to my knees at one point. That is when I decided to find a B & B which was difficult but ended up at Ponden Hall (again before it was glorified!) Took me a while to dry the tent out when I got home! It was a one (wo)man tent borrowed from my brother who was in the Marines.
All in all a brilliant experience and only wish I had the health and strength to do it again. Yep, even with the rain it was wonderful. I probably didn't get the views I would have done in sunlight but they were still spectacular. As I paraphrased William Blake (?) 'dark, satanic hills'.
I really wanted Wainwright's pint of beer or whatever he promised to anyone who walked the whole length of it but never made it. Hey ho. It did me good. :-)
