Hoffenheim (H) Post Match Thread

A tricky match for both teams. Hoffenheim needed everything to fall into place for them even to qualify for the Europa league : we needed everything to go wrong for us to lose top spot. There was little to bring out the best in either side and the City side has, of necessity, been changed so much in recent weeks that it is hardly surprising that we lacked our usual cohesion and struggled to get our passing game going. In the light of all this it was a very entertaining game and always very watchable. Hoffenheim are very good going forward with the ball but are very open at the back much of the time - on one occasion they didn't actually have a back! Some of City's play was scintillating : some of it was not. But it was a well deserved win and for all that they were supposed to have sliced through our backline they only had 3 shots on target and 3 off. Ederson had a very good game, Gundo had a good game as did the front three and young Phil gave us a glimpse of some quite dazzling things to come.

I am a naive, innocent, Happy Clapper City fan and I believe we can beat any team at any time, and especially in February when I trust all our squad will be fit, the warmer weather is on its way and I am wearing my lucky City watch!

even a broken watch is right twice a day, so they say!

There were a lot of Hoffenheim fans in CB3 last night

The Hoffenheim fans in the row behind me in 326 were as good as gold.
The pissed up Chelsea supporting Russian who got evicted by the stewards in the first half was a complete cockwomble, however.

Did you tell him Wednesday is Champion's League night and it's Thursday night he wanted?

I've seen this a few times where there's a block of away fans in one of the main stands. I think there's some kind of UEFA reg about allowing some visiting fans good seats? Does this happen with City away from home in Europe?

I'd have thought that it would be unlikely that there were many local Germans buying up seats in the City ends. Hoffenheim sounds to me like a team that would be well supported in their own region of Germany but not amongst what is probably a small English based German community. Why would a Hoffenheim fan not buy tickets in advance for a game in their own end? But you never know.

If we get Ajax, Schalke will have very big travelling support. I think Atletico and Roma are well supported too? Whoever it is, it will be a proper European night. All the games we played were somewhat low key because I think deep down we knew we were going through. Of course we'll play the away leg first so hopefully the edge is taken off it, but at this level of the competition it's unlikely that there will be a decisive win. Schalke remain my ideal opponent.
