Holidays in America?

Absolutely true , after splitting up with my first wife I thought I’d take a sabbatical . Mate of mine was out there (illegally) working as a mover out on Long Island and my brother was a work rider in upstate Saratoga .
Got out there started working with my mate and ended up staying 11 months .
Went back for a mates wedding some years later and was promptly put on the next available flight home , New York and back in 24 hours .

Who was president then mate?

We went when he was last in charge and going new york in September, doesn't bother me, I enjoy asking locals how they feel about trump and getting their polarising unfiltered opinions.

If I let political leadership dictate where I spent my money I'd have to leave the UK with the cluless Starmer and Co in power.
I holiday amongst lots of Americans - try to keep away from their politics, but Trump is very polarising - 50% despise him and 50% love him. Some (on either side of the divide) are not what you’d expect.
Agree with you about Starmer. Even my Labour voting children can’t stand the fucker !

The immigration officers are presently able to request you to open your phone and download whatever they wish and plenty turned around for anti-Trump social media posts.
Immigration officers in the UK can do this too, to be fair. It happened to me the first time I was over there, almost twenty years ago now. It's reasonable to be concerned but I wouldn't let it put me off a trip personally.

That won’t refuse entry for disparaging Starmer on social media.

Hard to say. I have no criminal record, no unusual politics and had never commented on social media on anything at that point. I was detained for at least an hour answering their stupid questions and having my things searched. I got through eventually and life went on. Immigration officers usually aren't the best and brightest and you're always running the risk of provoking them.

I would bet there are a lot of non-Americans in the US right now who have said something negative about Trump.

I have been numerous times and always found Americans to be friendly and welcoming. But one thing is for certain, they are bloody clueless about the rest of the world and a good majority don’t know much about their own country having hardly ever travelled out of the State they live in.

It’s not remotely hard to say

How many UK citizens have been arrested for protesting the proscription of Palestine Action? If you think they wouldn't turn a foreigner away at the border for political speech you're naive.

It's not easy when you only get 2 weeks holiday a year.
Most of them wait till they're older and better off financially to venture overseas.

It's easier for Brits to travel abroad, Europe is just there close by and you have a month annual leave.

When I was in Washington DC a few years ago I got talking to a mother and her two daughters and they asked me where I was from and without thinking I just said England and they asked me what state that was. When I said no, United Kingdom they were still a bit perplexed until I said Europe.

We did end up having a long chat about them not being able to get away for holidays abroad or even across states. They had been to Arlington and were advising me about the Arlington Cemetery and the changing of the guard etc.

This is something we as a family have been discussing a lot this year @Bill Walker with my Canadian granddaughter coming over for the term at Leeds Uni on an exchange. Her schedule meant that she had longish weekends and boy did she (& other overseas students) make the most of the closeness of Europe and the cheap fares. She travelled to places I’d forgotten were in Europe! They stayed in backpacker hostels and air bnb. They said how easy it is for us, something I guess we take for granted. :-)

New Orleans is at it's maddest around Fat Tuesday. Not sure what it's like at Halloween. Boy is it a fun city to visit though...
New Orleans is fantastic. My grandmother was from near there and used to cook us Cajun food when she’d come to visit. One of if not the best food city in the nation, along with the music. I’ve gone at Easter time and over New Year’s and I have had a great experience despite the crowds and the drunkenness. Also getting out of the French Quarter and into some other districts is a lot of fun.

Is it O'Briens that claims to be the biggest bar in the world?
Pat O’Briens. Never heard them called the biggest but it’s probably the one bar more Americans have heard of than any other! Famous for the Hurricane, which is a nasty concoction that will take it right out of even the stoutest because you don’t even feel it until you’ve had seven — and then — BAM — you’re on the way to the hospital.

Find me a case of that happening and for each one that was turned away for criticising the UK government I’ll find you three turned away for criticising the Trump regime.

Plus it’s my tourist dollar and I get to choose where the fuck I spend it and I won’t spend it anywhere Y’all Quieda are in charge and genuinely don’t give a fuck whether you take umbrage with you.

People say this as though it's a bad thing, every country on earth arrests people for bad things they do and supporting Palestine action in my opinion and the opinion of the majority is a bad thing.

It's not like they don't know they shouldn't do it before they get arrested. They don't get arrested for waving a flag they get arrested for supporting this brand of numpties, it's illegal to support loads of dodgy groups.

But yes I get your point, we do it too.
