All I'll say is don't go to Sorrento. Tourist trap. Italian Blackpool.Looking at Salerno?
Far cheaper than Positano, only a 40 mile train ride from Naples and a flight £17 return with Ryanair.
Anyone been and decent beaches?

Yes have been there when I did most of the amalfi coast and it’s a great place as base with loads of options for day trips. Definitely worth doing it. Train to Naples is easy and Even Rome is cheap and less than 1h20 direct. It’s a great hub for getting to pompeii and other places on amalfi coast also.
The beach is big! Not the best in Italy but also not a bad beach either. It is quite close to the industrial port though.

Beautiful resort with some amazing eateries and bars. Last time we were there, around four years ago, we were paying £2 to £2.50 a pint. Been a good many times and regardless of any fluctuations in the Lira they always massage the price to fit the above.Anyone been to Icmeler recently? What’s the typical cost for a meal/ pint of beer?
At night it is usually OK but still most restaurants are nothing to write home about there are good ones and it is a base to explore from. The Old Harbour was my favourite place during the day as that is too far for the Americans to walk. In the "new" centre during the day is full of those tourists from the big cruise boats asking how many inches the pizza is as is not stated on the menu.We had our honeymoon there last August (Sorrento not Blackpool!) and full of American tourists but we loved it and thought it was a great place to have as a base to get to Naples, train to Pompei, and see Versuvius and then get excursions over to Capri. Loved it but each to their own
Wow a beer was 5 last time I was there admittedly it was nowhere near 23 lira to the pound think it was about 8 which ties in with what you say about them price fixing :-)Beautiful resort with some amazing eateries and bars.
