Holidays

I used to go abroad quite a bit by myself when I was single. I would recommend it to anyone that has the opportunity to do it under any circumstances. It is really self-liberating and quite an experience. Just book a long weekend off work and take a flight out to somewhere. After the first time, you start to treat flights like buses.
Not for me mate...

Well I’ve had a fun day today…..NOT

Set off from hotel at 9.30am. Airport in Lanza for 10am. Few problems with flights due to crosswind/Visibility.

Flight inbound couldn’t land so landed in fuerteventura.

Delay 4 hrs.

Get on plane - very slow to get bags on. Time now pressing due to crew hours.

Taxi to runway. Plane Pulls off at last min and goes to some holding place. 1.30 hours later - boiling hot, no water, one announcement at the start then nothing.

Finally captain comes on and says we will be taking off and will update us on the new flight plan when in air !

20 mins after take off- announces we are heading to MALAGA! (Ironic really as that’s almost where I went in the first place)

Didn’t stay in Lanza due to lack of hotel space and thought about Cardiff but couldn’t get clearance from Tui to do that!

Get to Malaga - no Tui rep in sight and passport fella had to cross off the stamp in the passport that we had at Lanza so took an age.

Finally rep shows up. One coach for 200 people. Shambolic organisation. Kids, older people, 5 with disabilities and needing assistance.

Me to rep after an hour. “Where are we going to be staying as I’ll just get a cab” -

“no idea”

After an hour I just bin it off, book a room at a cheap ibis near airport.

Get email off Tui, new flight 4.30pm! (Meaning getting home almost 36 hours after departing!)

Fucked it off and booked on early easyJet.

What a day…
For all that TUI like to push that they're a decent package company, they do seem to have a terrible record when things go wrong. Often leaving their customer in the lurch with no rep to be seen.

Usually fly with EasyJet and Ryanair these days, but we booked our first holiday with TUI (for next summer) recently.

Completely agree. Always nice to have company but often you have to compromise on what you end up doing. Spent time travelling when I was younger and preferred being on my own because I could decide what to do with my day, and you meet plenty of people anyway and you can take them or leave them as you please.

Weirdo's ;)

Just booked Cuba
3 nights in Havana and a week in Jibercoa
Haven’t been to Cuba for nearly 20 years and looking online and talking to the lady who booked our holiday it looks like it might have changed a little
Last time I went we went to a club called Tropicana so thought I’d plan to go again but looks like it’s £75 each to get in
Sounds like they’ve hiked the prices up somewhat

Check the rules regarding a visa and your future ability to enter the USA(not that you'd want to for the next 4 years).

The lady who sold us the holiday is sorting out visas out as I can’t be arsed with all that kind of thing
After Covid they have really ramped up the red tape, obviously for our own good lol

Where in Spain is good to go with kids when doing self catering where they have some bars that allow kids in after 8pm?
Not beindorm.

The food / eating out options has vastly improved in the past 20 years mainly due to restrictions being lifted after Fidel croaked. Food imports from South American opened up and Cubans were then also permitted to convert part of homes into restaurants.

Lots of nice family resorts in the Balearics. Puerta Pollensa, Alcudia area are nice with beautiful beaches.

Cala Bona's also a nice friendly family resort with a lovely promenade. Hotel Cala Bona by the harbour is top place to stay. Nice food ambience and live music every night. A really good family oriantated resort is Protur Bonaire.

Been to bonaire and loved it but think that's more one where you would go all-inclusive and stay at the hotel.
Looking for somewhere where we can go out at night to a couple of child friendly bars.

Just back from 10 days in Tenerife, stayed half board at the Hollywood Mirage Hotel in Los Cristianos.
Aside from a very pleasant trip to the Beach Cabin City bar for the Palace game, the rest of the stay was pretty bad.
The hotel was supposed to be 4 star, but was infested with cockroaches. We had the in the room every day and saw them in restaurant at every breakfast & evening meal. It was grim & we spoke to the staff every time but they basically said “we have them”
Aside from the issues at the hotel, Los Cristianos is a bit like Blackpool, unless you like it there, I would give Tenerife a swerve.
