Holidays

Have fun! It’s such a great place—I’m really happy for you. I’m actually planning a trip there myself in July and have already reached out to cheaptickets customer support for a bit of help with the planning. They were quite helpful, so fingers crossed everything works out smoothly. Hopefully, I’ll get to enjoy it just as much as you will. Safe travels and make the most of it!
Off to Kos tonight.

Da Nang in june
Get the Grab app loaded on the phone for getting around, taxis very inexpensive - the drivers will all try to work directly with you thereafter which is handy if you’re planning to go up to Ba Na Hills to see the Golden Bridge - if you do, get there before the place opens and beat to coach loads. The place is rammed by 11am.

Been to Vietnam a couple of times,Hanoi,Saigon,Da-nang,Hoi-An and Nha Trang.
Da-Nang is nice and Hoi-an is a lot more touristy than many other places there .
We were in Da Nang in June and it was scorchio, we planned all our trips early morning or it gets unbearable .
Always wished I would have made an effort and got to Hue.

I fancy Phu quoc too

Might have to rethink
Where was best for beach and decent restaurant scene?
Da Nang - My An beach area, not the most authentic Vietnamese vibe but a great place to stay with nice beach bars and a £1 Grab ride will get you to the older parts of town around Han market for your snide gear etc. Oddly, the locals call Han market the Korean market owing to the amount of em in there.
Hoi An is also a great place to stay / hang out although the town and beach are a bit disjointed - tbh the beach there isn’t as nice as My An.

We stayed at the Pullman in My An ... fantastic beach.pic pull.jpg
We used to get a grab scooter into town, one occasion hers got a flat so it ended up with three of us on one bike which to be honest is pretty much average there.
Thought Nha Trang had the best beach vibe/resort feel out of the places I had visited but might have changed due to the Russians.Just a normal beach resort then... got what you expected .
Stayed in Hoi Ann town so didnt see the beach, nice but a bit too touristy/ busy for us.

Sadly, off resort, we found it to be an absolute shit hole. Sea was filthy - and that’s the rubbish you can see . Lots of Russians, not as many as in Nha Trang, but still too many.
Has Vietnam got really bad with the Russians ?
Last time I was there was 2019 pre-covid so they weren't really noticeable.
Brother wants to go touring to Vietnam after hearing me say how wonderful it is ,hate for him to get there and it be spoiled.
Was going to do Phu quoc this March but ended up in Borneo instead ...lucky swerve by the sounds of it .

Anyone been to supetar in brac island Croatia?

Yes went a few years ago. Lovely place but a pain in the arse to get there. Flight to Croatia, bus to Split harbour, pile on a boat with all your cases as the bus only takes you to the harbour and drops you off, about an hour on the boat across to brac then a bus to your hotel from there. Not sure if we were maybe unlucky with our transfers or the in-laws (who we went with and who paid for it) skimped on that side but it's not a journey I'd undertake with small kids, put it that way

wouldn’t say it’s really bad, less so than Bali as I understand, but you’ll definitely see (more likely hear) em in Phu Quoc - there are several Russian restaurants along the strip. Didn’t see any in Da Nang, Hoi An, Saigon or Hue in 2024, but I guess with the rouble being on its arse they’re having to make do with a bath tub full of vodka and the Black Sea.
