Holidays

Just had three days in Milan with my wife.
Fantastic city.
I've never been to Italy and only booked it a couple of weeks ago, but well worth a visit.

They'll be loads laughing at me, I'm sure, because it seems half the world have been, but I was really surprised how much I enjoyed it.

Miles better places in Italy....so go go go !!! ;)

Spent many nights in the big hotel ( forgot its name) on the sea front. Stigs brother had a bar nearby if I recall. I had many training courses in that area many years ago.
Is the hotel that Spanish city place.
I think it's Whitley bay.
We fitted out the pizza hut there about 8 years ago

We get away a lot, i love ‘the search’, putting hours of research in to find a hol that ticks boxes. Dont always get it right obviously but thats also part of the fun!!

We usually have 2/3 nights away in between xmas and new year, mainly to stop me going out of my mind with boredom!

Went malta last year, paris year before that.
Before that and over covid we did scarborough and glasgow.

Struggling for this year though. We have had a lot of trips this year so the dosh aint there for another foreign trip , and we dont fancy the traditional uk sea side resorts (morrisey was right, every day IS like sunday).
Done edinburgh, oxford, london a million times, whitby, etc etc

So help a blue out;

Its us 2 and 2 kids and probably a dog so has to be a drive and and airbandb

Is cardiff worth a trip? Much to do see over xmas?

Cambridge?

Weve seen a lot of the uk so will probs reply, “already been” to most suggestions.

Norfolk Broads? Not sure what it would be like in Winter but Norwich is nearby and quite a nice city.

New Forest? Quick drive to Bournemouth/Southampton if you want a 'City'.......as good as anywhere for walks & country pubs, especially if you have a dog that likes walking/running!
Might need Google for 'things for kids'...but you'll find them.

Stratford Upon Avon

Where?
Rome? My wife wants to go there.
Rome has some amazing sites but it is very busy.

Venice was better than expected, but we went last April before busy season.

I found Florence a little disappointing but having said that, the exterior of the Duomo is one of the most spectacular cathedral exteriors I’ve ever seen - shame about the “slap some magnolia paint on it” interior :)

Bergamo is a hidden gem and worth a couple of days.

Malham in the Yorkshire Dales. Lots of great walking. Good restaurants. Other market towns like Settle and Skipton not far away.

Haworth - the weekend before Christmas there’s a lovely Nativity Procession with a child on the back of a donkey and Christmas carols through the town. Santa on the steam railway. There’s Christmas markets at Halifax in the Piece Hall too.

York - all the history. Diagon Alley for Harry Potter fans. Great pubs. Another steam train at Malton and Pickering to explore all the way to Whitby.

You’ve done Whitby. The rest of the Yorkshire coast is generally lovely too. Robin Hoods Bay. Staithes. Filey. Flamborough. Runswick Bay. Saltburn. Bracing beach walks, good pubs. The country’s best fish and chips.
