Heading down to Cornwall (Perranporth) Monday for 5 days. Hopefully the weather is better than forecast.

Dragged my caravan down there in the eighties. Weather never did what it was forecast to do. Locals used to say, " This is Cornwall".

Just come back from Ixia, Rhodes today. Lovely little spot, perfect for a weeks stay.

Airport was a bugger in and out though, massive queue at passport control in Mcr as well. Hard work with very young and older travellers in the group.

How good is it there pal? Seems a cheaper option these days,or is it chav central..

I love it, though I usually stay away from Flower Street the main strip as there are loads of pubs - restaurants in other areas of the resort.
It has tourists from all over Europe so not too many chavs though I normally go June and September so can't really say about July and August.
Loads of families though there are a couple of "party crew" team's for the 18 - 30 type's

We are regulars to Thailand. Although there is a "requirement" for access depending on which visa you have, the amount could be up to about 40000THB for a family. Over 20+ years of going there, I have never heard of anyone being asked to prove they have access to funds, let alone actually carrying it in cash. Immigration is now mainly automated with biometric information being taken and a very cursory scan of the passport.

Yeah i appreciate what you have experienced. I haven't been for a couple of year's myself. My daughter was born there so I wouldn't expect us having too much trouble when we go at Xmas. But I am still taking a grand in cash just incase. She's got a Thai passport but i obviously have not . I lived there for year's and nothing would surprise me when dealing with immigration and visa issues over there. The information I have posted has been passed to me by a friend who is all over the Internet and also lived there himself up until recently. I definitely wouldn't want to come back to the UK for Xmas because I couldn't show them a grand on arrival. I will be looking for some phuket information nearer the time if you can help me out . We just can’t be arsed with travelling abroad these days, there are so many lovely places to visit in the UK. We had a great week on the Isle of Wight last month, a short car ferry across from Lymington to an island we can see from Bournemouth, but it was great. We tend to do self-catering, which means we cater for breakfast and snacks, but explore the pubs and restaurants for main meals.

I spent a few years living in and travelling oz, many times in places like bali/thailand but the best holidays I ever had were in Tuscany and on a houseboat in the Norfolk broads. You don't have to travel far to have a great time.

I've stayed in Ixia a couple of times, lovely family run hotel, they served the best Greek food I've ever had. It's not a bad location, easy bus ride to Rhodes Town and you can get anywhere from there.
Local enough for the airport transfers too.

We just can’t be arsed with travelling abroad these days, there are so many lovely places to visit in the UK. We had a great week on the Isle of Wight last month, a short car ferry across from Lymington to an island we can see from Bournemouth, but it was great. We tend to do self-catering, which means we cater for breakfast and snacks, but explore the pubs and restaurants for main meals.

I’m getting to the stage where flying is becoming a chore. I’ve done loads of short breaks in Europe over the years and a few 4/5 night breaks to North America but it’s such a pain now.

As a FOC it’ll need to be at least a 10 day holiday, it takes up almost a full day flying out and back, I don’t do early flights anymore so I know that doesn’t help.

Only trip left for this year at the moment is Glasgow 3 nights in September, train £64 return from Piccadilly (for 2 of us) and £324 for the Yotel opposite the Central Station with breakfast included.

Going to watch the stage play of “Two Doors Down” at the Hydro on Sunday, Hamilton races on Monday and a mooch around the City Centre Tuesday. Not been to Glasgow for around 35 years so looking forward to it.

If you’re near the Old Town it’s very hip and vibrant, there’s a restaurant called Starka, I’ve recommended to three friends who’ve all been and loved it, it’s really a great place.

A bit of advice needed. I’m taking my lad and his mate to Thailand in August. The cheapest flights have a stop in the Middle East. I’ve checked the Government website and it states travel through the ME is not advisable. Has anyone recently flown this route? The alternative via Hong Kong or even Mumbai is more expensive, and tend to have long layovers on the return.

I've just booked from Heathrow via Abu Dhabi, Aug 29 on Emptyhad. Seems to be no problems.
