I always liked Steve Redmond .
He was proper Centre back who took no prisoners .
In his early days he was prone to the odd howler .
But he did improve and even scored some important goals .
The injury time winner against Oxford at Maine Road .
Springs to mind .

So, do you think he would be a starter in the current team?
I think he would be a million miles away.

Look this lad saved us from being in the 2nd division for ages .
So he was good at the time .
Those home grown players in the 80s saved us from doing , a Wolves and ending up in the 4th division .
So in a way we should still celebrate White , Lake ,Hinchcliffe and Redmond .
Redmond wouldn't make are current line up .

Joe Corrigan would be my number 1

Clive Wilson was one of my favourite players in the 80s . Its a shame we sold him because he played well for all the London clubs .

Thats a great shout,Jive was a great player,very underated.

Another shout for Clive, I was gutted when we sold him, he was about the only player really worth watching in that side. Very good technique and ball skills plus his versatility - I reckon he would have been a handy squad player in the current setup.

Took a long while to pay for Rodders then because Towers left 2 years after Marsh signed, as part of the Tueart deal.

I think Towers was sold as part of the Tuert and Horswill deal.
A good player but he hit the back of the north stand mor than the back of the net

Derek Jeffries was brilliant when he first got into the side. I think it was 1971 ( I'm too idle to look it up). We played Chelsea in the semi-final of CWC that season and it was a major concern as to whether he would be fit for the game.
I agree with the earlier poster, he followed Malcolm to Palace and just gradually fell away.
I think Joe Corrigan would be a potential starter and maybe Willie Donachie.
Looking at who has started for us in recent years both Mike Doyle and Tommy Booth would have been upset if they couldn't match the efforts of Stefan Savic.

PS I always thought we signed Barney Daniels from Ashton United, and wasn't strictly homegrown?

a player i always rated as a youngster but never realised his potential was Derek Jeffries a young centre half who came through the youth system and a local lad , his style of play would be more suited to the modern game , a cultured footballer who was good on the ball , he ended up with big mal at palace , but his career just drifted into the lower divisons and non league.

Great shout and agree a talent never properly fulfilled. Very cultured and would possibly have made a top class centre back in todays football.

He was also a real good bloke , was friendly with his brother Wilf at the time so met Derek a few times.
