Homegrown options

No we don't. We can go into the season with 0 HG players if we'd like. There is no obligation whatsoever to fill the HG quota. It is merely an opportunity to add more players to our roster, if we'd like.

Though we desperately need to have a deeper squad than last year (the cups proved that). Not that I think we won't.

Who are our current homegrown first team players then?

Hart
Clichy
Deneyer
Sterling
Ihanachi
Lopes

Leaves us two short?

Why? There is no rule in place you have to have X amount of HG players. You can name 17 foreigners and thats it. Clubs can leave HG spots empty, if they wish to do so. Unless you want squad of 25, of course. Pellegrini prefers squad of 22.

Interesting, so the HG rule is a bit of a myth, it's just to make up the numbers if you need them?

It depends what squad size the manager wants. HG players are generally bought because they bring extra depth, as just having 17 foreigners is a bit too thin to tackle 4 competitions for example.

Media make too much fuss about this some sort of HG "rule".

Instead of buying an average english player to fill HG we should promote someone from the EDS and give them the chance to show something. Saves us money in the long term because inevitability they will leave in a few seasons for a lower fee than what we bought them.
