Homeless people/addiction.

Had a look at Brian Cox's new documentary 'how the other half live' where he contrasts the growing gap between the have's and have nots. For those that don't know his background he was born into poverty in Dundee and has never forgotten where he came from. Whilst its not perfect it is worth a watch as there is little like it on tv (Ch 5).

He interviews a multi millionaire who says he would be very happy to pay a wealth tax if it were fairly and consistently applied (globally) :-0

That last word demonstrates how bloody difficult it will be to resolve this as real wealth has no problem relocating anywhere where their assets are protected. Meanwhile the 'have nots" hand over their hard earned income to those that have wealth every time we spend.

I believe that at some point there will be a reckoning when decent folk decide 'enough is enough'. A rerun of the french revolution?
Brian cox said yesterday when talking about the show , i am not a millionare but i get by ok , bit of a fib there i reckon

He's worth about £6,000,000 and his wife is worth over double that so it's hard to believe anything he says if he said that.

I could have easily have ended up the same. Split for my partner and child.. Moved out... Found a pub.. Started enjoying beers...

But fortunately for me I was the other way around in that I didn't want to damage a decent career I had built for myself and so that limits how much I went(and still go) to the pub.
Working from home where I could easily get away with getting tanked up the night before I can see how slippery that slope is.

Best not judge people and as someone else said, saying 'get a grip, man up etc etc' shows a real lack of understanding on just how bad a thing that is to say to someone on that slope.
May as well push the head a drowning man.

A friend of mine used to run a help site for depression, he always said people who suffered from depression often became incredible actors in the way they managed to hide the fact even from the people closest to them (you often hear people say after a suicide “I’d never have thought they were the type” to coin a phrase).

Interestingly, he managed to conquer or at least control his depression and went on to become the worlds strongest power lifter for his weight a few years ago, but the important part was, he received the right advice and help and at the right time, because his wife was a GP and knew exactly what help he should be getting, he always recognised just how fortunate he was in that respect, hence why he began the help site in the first place, for those who weren’t .

Lovely story, but it shows you need to know what help you can get and when the right time is,

It is mate and he really is a fantastic lad, I remember him saying he’d suffered for so long in silence, had absolutely no idea why he felt the way he did and tried to “man up” etc and work through it on his own but was going under slowly but surely, then one day he said something to his wife and luckily, she clocked it straight away, asked the right questions and he opened up on the whole thing and it went from there.

No doubt he can help countless others now with his story too.

Its so hard to break the cycle of blaming yourself and believing you are weak and that being the reason you can’t snap out of it is hard, but everybody has the potential to get out of it, given the right help/time.

I think the ironic thing as well is that some can take a depressant such as alcohol and other drugs to lift them out of a certain place. Yet years later the problem still exists as it hasn't been dealt with, and the person is possibly in a worse place than before. It could be a bereavement or financial reasons, so you then need help in tackling those issues directly as well as your substance misuse.
Add to that a housing issue and you can see how easy it is for someone's life to spiral out of control. Especially for males who tend to hide their emotions from even those closest to them - through shame possibly or lots of other reasons. I come from a normal northern working class background but if I opened up to my brother or father they genuinely would never know what to do. So you don't and you carry the burden on your own and they think everything is okay.

100%

I was extremely lucky that I got the gp call back. She was fantastic, she asked what had made to turn to her ( gp ). No word of a lie I said " it was a football forum called bluemoon ". She said it was great that I had somewhere to text/chat with people.

I will never forget the help I got from here,

I know it's not easy to get to the docs but dont give up
