Homeschooling during lockdown

had my two with me a few times during home learning.

Il admit as a working from home dad its very difficult in ensuring they do their work.

Thankfully there are apps the school make them use now that keeps them intrigued with their work.

I do think school kids are losing out massively.

I’m hating it. Have two boys 4 and 6 who would normally be at nursery and school who are fighting more and more the longer this goes on. Trying to do a distance learning Masters too which is pretty impossible until they are in bed so find myself up till 2 and 3 in the morning working on 3000 word essays.
Don’t think I’ll survive to be honest..

...is saving lives and protecting the NHS. Well done all those doing it when they could send kids in. Educationally bad, morally, ethically, humanely, medically good. Very good.

Hang in there mate, you’re saving lives, possibly your own.

Some of it is shite like dancing and singing asignments and stuff, but must admit Im learning a lot of basic stuff that I forgot a long time ago.
Current topic: Planets. Been watching That Brian Cox Planets series on BBC. Awsome stuff man. Can name them all now in Welsh and English and in order. Been a long time since I could do that. Had no idea Pluto/Plwto was no longer a planet.

Start of another week. Noticing a few less on the morning meeting which is a shame. From what I can see there's a core of about 10 kids out of a class of 34 involved in all the work. Feeling very grateful that the daughter wants to learn and we have the access to the required tech. Think it's hit home this morning the actual affect this is going to have on the education of most.

Still, got to keep plugging away. We're healthy and safe, won't be forever and I'm going to miss this time with her when she's back in school for good and I actually have to go to work on a Monday morning.

Another positive. I'm fucking shit hot adding and subtracting fractions now!

Any tips on how to teach division to a 6 year old? Can do the sums but feel like I’m banging my head against a brick wall trying to teach her how to work it out. Teachers advice.... leave it and try again later!

What method are they suggesting for the calculations?

I’m a primary teacher with a class with ages 7-8-9 year olds. We’re recapping division after having taught it earlier in the academic year.
