Unfortunately, some people do, hence the players' hesitance about coming out, and the (probably genuine) worry that guessing who the three might be could lead to legal action if you're wrong.

They're just reaffirming the stigma attached to it by going to extra lengths to announce it.

I reckon the player reaction might also surprise many though. Obviously the vast majority of players will be completely fine with it, but it wouldn't surprise me if there's one or two nobheads who have a problem sharing a dressing room with a gay man (apparently some homophobes think their arse is irresistible to gay men). Let's not forget there are a lot of players from cultures that a far more, let's say conservative, than the UK. What about players who are religiously devout like Yaya "someone must have slipped it in my drink" Toure and Papiss "I didn't know it was a casino, honest" Cisse?

And the other thing you have to think about is that these players are not just playing in England. British fans might be accepting, but what about when they have an away game in Kiev or St. Petersburg? Given UEFA's brilliant job on cracking down on racism in such places, I can't imagine anyone wanting to voluntarily be subjected to similar abuse.
