Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

I will say it again people say football hooligans wankers etc, you were very great full these lads were about back in the day stopped a lot of match going blues getting a good kicking or worse
I always felt pride that I never saw lads and dad's attacked at City, but any firm who came looking for trouble found it. Our boys were game as fuck but had a code of honour not to pick on soft targets. Lots of firms had this sense of morality but was totally lacking at the other end of the East lancs Rd. In our lower division days innocent blues were targeted by local scrotes who would shit out at one look at the Cool Cats or the Goveners. Like I've said before modern firms more like 1980s tribute acts, but definitely getting worse especially outside the prem.

I went in brammhall lane for the 4-2 defeat under Machin, when Paul lakes brother Mike did us..I hadn't planned to ..but came to Sheffield with a gang of forest lads ( from the wheatsheaf ,bobbersmill)who I was keen on showing what a cracking day out it was for all Blues away from home....it wasn't all ticket..and stupidly we decided to get absolutely wasted before the game in Sheffield town centre..when we eventually got to the away end ,a bit late...the gates were shut!!! .City had sold out standing and seats...even tho I could barely stand up,,,or see...I made my way ( instinctively??) To the home turnstiles ,on the side nearest the away fans..and got in paying on the gate !! I knew BL wasn't a ground to take the piss, but id drunk too much ale....it was a rip roaring, end to end match, and our support was loud and fierce( pity about the team)

I decided I wasn't being quiet and loudly shouted "Go on You Blue Boys !!""..every time we crossed the half way line, just as though i was on the Kippax.....when we scored our goals I actually got up from my seat and ran to the front to dance estatically with joy..on my own...with the Blue away end close to my right..

Luckily..no one said a word to me.....if they did..Strongbow beer goggles rendered them invisible.i didn't give a Fuck.

After the game I met up somehow with the Notts lads ..and we bumped into the BBC near the bus station, close to the penny Black....I had no idea it was their pub, lol.bit messy in the end...but I returned home,unscathed,...but with a Norway Eurovision song contest " No Points"

Great day out.
Speaking of Bramall Lane, the November 84 game was scary outside for a 12 yo. Proper going off, but my mate and his dad didn't hang around long enough, lol

Utd picked on dads with kids....seen it first hand at a Derby at Maine Road.

City dad covered in blood with a kid on each hand. I asked him what happened and he said a crew of reds started on him and did a few digs with his kids watching.

I won't tell you what we did next.

Pretty sure boro thought they had a result in the ground, not sure they did but they forgot they had to exit the ground. Don’t think they thought it through very well.
Claremont rd was lively too.

Yep was dead easy to go in the home ends back then…for brightwells goal the paddock to the left was half city, remember it kicked off before the game and split city/united ..we had loads in there. Same for curles pen in the stretford end, I was in there with about 300 blues and the police actually put a corden around us and left us, as there were so many. Great times!
Yep, I was in the Paddock that night Curle scored the pen. Was a right laugh and to be honest, at no point did I feel threatened as there were so many of us. Some United fan at work got tickets for me and a mate off a tout. Got into the ground and we were stood at the top of the stand wondering where the blues were. We didn't have any colours on but that didn't stop a copper telling us "Your lot are down there near the front!"

I seem to recall that they even kept us in for a short while afterwards as well
