Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

Barnsley away one year behind the stand at half time. Never seen anything like it. Police v City fans. It seemed to escalate into a war.
Yes I was there. I remember we had to rescue a Barnsley steward caught up in it. Poor lad was terrified

It was 1984 . The reason I remember it was because it was the last time I had a fight at a football match ( I was 27 at the time, married with a baby and a toddler at home, and had a good job as a truck salesman so I should have known better really).
However,as you rightly point out there were thousands of Geordies walking around outside Maine Road.
One or two were being arseholes by banging shoulders with City fans they were walking past.
So I followed 2 of the worst offenders, got hold of one by his jacket and smacked him in the mouth.
And tripped the other one up,and gave him a couple of kicks in the midriff with the brogues I used to wear back then.
Always trouble when Newcastle came. Fights before the game.and at the back of the Kippax concourse with the blue dividing fence. Trouble at st James when they won 5-0 I think it was. Loads o blues travelling to that one.massive city escort with Newcastle on both sides. That was fun and games

Liverpool were a nightmare at their ground but not so clever away, Everton were handier.

The funny thing is I have to remember I'm a FOC whenever I hear and see away fans Gibb Ng off in town or on the tram. The urge to give them a clump is still strong lol.
It never leaves you pal ;)

Anyone remember brum away for a night game? Carnage at the end of the game they ran onto the pitch over to City after the game and outside it was bad too

Unless there’s been another 5-0 that I’ve forgotten about, I think you may be getting your Newcastle trips mixed up mate.

The one near the start of the ‘83/ ‘84 season, where Beardsley scored a hatrick wasn’t a great turn out at all. We had two small pens in the middle behind the net that were both only half full at best. I think the special came in to some station in the middle of nowhere outside the City centre and then bussed in from there.

Although I suppose it’s equally likely that you’re right and I’m getting mixed up.

Definitely the worst I’ve seen there was the ‘77 FA Cup game. Think it’s already been discussed on this thread so won’t bother going on about it again.

Remember that game well, had a old ten pence that hit me on side of the eye and drew blood think I was only 14 at the time, kept us in for ages after game as well as I recall, the walk back to the train station was a bit nervy as a young lad....

Mid 80’s IIRC, maybe ‘85. Behind our end was what can now be described as the CL fan park. It was just waste land with stones, bricks etc galore. Utter carnage after the game. We always took a huge following there.

millwall the amount of people go on about them like they are the dogs bollox!!! they got bullied at maine road for years and had to bring other firms and still got bullied..

Millwall get bullied in championship and take no more than 300 away most times….

Season just gone their average away following was 1,058, the second worst in the division. Even Luton averaged 1,279!

correct.

Even though I missed the heyday they've always been a disappointment to us.

Disappeared when they played Altrincham in the FA Cup when we had hundreds out.

Called it on twice during the David Haye fight in Manchester (same day Chelsea played Man United at OT) and hid away.
