Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

Yep , i can recall going down to Southend for a league cup tie in a 70's or 80's night match, and even they had a few hundred yobs that were hellbent on giving us grief all night , and trying to get at us outside the ground .... as you say we were the biggest scalp for those clubs that we visited in those days.
Think it was the eighty's went on the special train another dodgy one from the same time was a end of season game at Stockport ,(1984) may seem hard to believe but they were up for it

Ok fair enough. We are talking about games from over 50 years ago so it is easy to get seasons mixed up. I have just said the same in a pm to Cyberblue.
My normally good memory is starting to fade a little bit these days.
Yeah mine is going too, I just have a vivid memory of that particular match.

Stockport County have always hated us , and yet there was a time when we. more than any other club, did our level best to help them financially by constantly playing friendlies at Edgely Park all the time, and we always had plenty of support there, we didn't HAVE to do that ... it's probably likely that the hatred stems from most of the local Stockport population actually preferring to watch City than Stockport!

I've lived in both Adswood and Cheadle Hulme at times, down the years, and most people i''ve known there have been City fans ...

The 67/68 game against Everton was a Monday night game, last home game of the season, Book and Coleman scored in a 2-0 win, vital for the title chase. Think it was also the night the rags lost 6-3 at West Brom which boosted our title hopes.
Cheers pal only 1 year out not baf as 50 odd years ago
