Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

City firm in The Salutation, United in The Denmark. Both leave to meet. The story from United is that as they left some bell end lobbed a bottle at a police van, so some of them got stopped. Those at the front carried on unaware and then met City who had loads more lads. A couple of ‘air bombs’ were thrown and this stunned United and they got smashed front, left & centre. Their main man holding a wooden log got sparked out cold. Rumours later that he was dead... but of course that was bollocks. City got locked in The Salutation and only let out in twos, to be sec 60d. So I was told officer ;-)

The Salutation, what a pub.

Met my wife in there whilst both at university

Met Steve Mcmahon there also, said hello, he told me to fuck off as he was having a pint

This was a snidey attack on innocents. The police are considering reopening the case. 12 shit houses were jailed for this. Can they be re tried for manslaughter?

Yep, that was a terrible attack on a guy just walkin to catch his train home ..... i have posted elsewhere on this thread about Southend yobs having a right go at City fans whilst we were down there for a night match some years ago , they have a nasty little hooligan element amongst them , we were fortunate that most of us were put on buses back to the station after the game and avoided their scum, although others were unlucky and did encounter them ..... i really hope the scumbags that did this to that Cambridge fan get what's coming to them , they ultimately killed him for absolutely no other reason than he was a fan of the opposition ... he wouldn't have stood a chance.

Back in the 80s /90s, living in Essex deep in West Ham territory I used to work with a couple of ICF lads - they really respected City supporters - they told me how they had gone into the Kippax in small groups at one stage, trying to meet up into one large group but got spotted by City fans and escorted out by police - they were really wary of all the alleys round the ground - they looked upon City supporters as being like them, loyal, supporting a shit club that never won anything while all the bigger clubs got all the glory, they could see similarities between between both clubs.
I remember in the mid 70's when about 100 west ham came in the kippax, covered corner platt lane side. I always remember because our English teacher from school was with West ham. He said he never ran so fast when they got out. Fair play to them that day, no segregation, surrounded by City and they stayed to the end.

I bet it was a bit tasty when Liverpool and Everton played at Maine Rd in the FA cup.
I bet city rivalries on both sides were forgotten that night !!

I lived in Hulme at the time and loads of scousers were walking past and when they got to moss side shopping centre they twatted a few black lads.
Afterwards all the lads from Hulme, blues and reds and anybody who wanted a fight joined up and the scousers got battered.. Then they went into town and were fighting in Piccadilly and on Oxford Road.

Sure they weren’t Chelsea fans wearing dipper tops?

He wasn’t even involved in the scene, not a member of any firm and lived near Ipswich I believe. A pre planned, targeted attack on a man and a couple of mates, by a mob of 16

Not related to us but absolutely tragic. Possibility the perpetrators could face manslaughter charges too.

Brain damaged should be classed as some more serious charge below murder maybe,as in theory your in a bubble.who needs 24/7 care plus you fked the whole family life up.
And seeing 12 shitheads on to 1 man who took away his independence & life
Wish karma on all of them cancer or something worse,
Worked down there 15/18yrs ago,got told what bars were ok & ones not to even walk passed at a certain time.mostly around the bus station and the train station,
Only had one run in, in the time I was there,3 off them while I was at the chippy order then waited outside having a fag first guy manc c.nt,then the other 2 turned up,owner told them leave it out,
First guy told him do you want slashing as well,
Sort off knew then it wasn't just going to be a fair fight,
Run or stand,fk it first guy goes anywhere near any pockets gets it first.
The main guy makes a move, butted the c.nt nose & claret 2nd guy moves left hook,3rd guy backs off abit,
Then just as the threats start a guy Ive had small chats with, in a bar I went in
Turns up,asked am i ok,told the 3 am a mate off him,
Sorry Jerry,he then told them if I get any shit punched slashed anything, you no what will happen, yeah yeah.
