Day after Boxing Day 1976.
If anyone older than me has better information from this day I would love to here it.
I was 14 & went with my Uncle & his mate.
We were the first fans to use the new south stand that day ( replaced the cowshed)
I think this was the day we started taking serious thousands to most away games on a regular basis.
We queued for ages at both entrances but they locked the turnstiles as full.
Queued at the lowfields along with loads of other blues & again got locked out.
I didn’t know the significance at the time but we then did the same at the kop ( my uncle was a big bricklayer & didn’t give a toss ) but gave up half an hour after kick off when they locked that end as well.
The following year in the fa cup was a similar crowd with a similar number of blues there yet the next year again in the fa cup with massive city numbers the crowd was 10,000 less.
This was the pitch invasion one & the trip from & back to the train station still lives with me now.
Mickey Francis version of this days events in his book was absolutely bang on.
Less than 10 from 50 on our coach got in the ground they locked the gates just behind us the rest spent the afternoon fighting with Leeds and giving it by all accounts

Battered Leeds with the ball in that first game, for many years it was the best away performance I'd been at.

Was heaving in the bottom of the SS, I was only 13 and struggling to see, I remember some really fit lady lifting me & holding me up (oo er) for about 20 mins so I could see.

The cup game I went by train alone....shit myself getting back to the station.

not maine road but anyway...blackpool away league cup 84/85. 7 of us went in my mates mini, after the game we ended up backstreets of blackpool in a boozer called the prince of wales. there was a mod disco on some blackpool scooter club. near the bar 30 or 40 moody looking lads and it turns out they were a coachload from the mauldeth in burnage. fuck me they looked like a pirates crew..sure enough mayhem ensued. blackpools finest turned up and nicked everyone who wasnt wearing a parka. 1st and only time ive spent time in the cells.
Went with friends and parked right behind their end behind the goal (away seats were in that end). The car was right on that bridge over a disused railway line and the away coaches were parked a little further along on what would have been the train line. We exited the ground and this mob had congregated on the bridge next to the car looking down at the coaches. We walked into the mob and just mingled with them trying to not look suspicious. Next thing we are all bouncing up and down chanting "sea, sea, seasiders" over and over and then someone shouts "lets go this way" and they all ran off somewhere leaving us to get in the car and drive off quickly!

My 1st ever away game,my dad took me,was right at front behind goal chocker, played em again about 2 months later in the cup & lost to a last minute Trevor Cherry goal...

Remember when they beat us in the FA Cup?
A few weeks later we were playing somewhere up north, possibly Grimsby or Boro.
Anyway our Yelloways luxury coach from Middleton, was overtaken on the motorway by a coachload of giddy Blackpool fans, giving it the “two one” signs, cheeky fookers.
A few miles up the road, we pulled into the services and they were there. They weren’t laughing for then. :)
