Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

I was there that day when Spurs charged from the back of the kippax. They definitely took us by surprise but got battered within a couple of minutes - remember them jumping on to the pitch to get away. It’s bollocks for Spurs to say it was 3pm…unless my memory is playing tricks, the Kippax was half empty my guess would be it was around half an hour/20 mins before kick off. They wouldn’t have got near at 3o’clock !
i remember it ,spurs fans went from the top of the kippax to pitch side in seconds.most of them knew it was a bad idea ,as soon as they reached the top of the kippax steps

There is no fucking way any teams hooligans saw Maine Road as an easy day out. It wouldn't have been 3pm either as the stand wouldn't have had the space to group up and move that freely. I remember Spurs getting battered a fair few times back then though they were quite game. Chelsea were the toughest London mob I ever saw at Maine Road, particularly the second leg of the ECWC semi final.

Do you remember the game at Maine Road against Chelsea, Friday night live on TV in the old Division 2, very tasty atmosphere, they hammered us on the pitch and it was going off everywhere in the ground.

old work colleague who used to watch rags in the 70's said there version was "we don't carry axes, we don't carry lead, we only wear doc martens to bury in your head"
I seem to reember it being ""we don't carry hammers , we don't carry lead, we only carry hatchets to bury in your head"?

You're right, it was WELL BEFORE three o' clock, maybe a good hour before, at least, and I had only minutes before entered through the tunstiles in the Kippax myself when it happened, and was stood talking to a mate near the bottom of the steps in the yard .... there wasn't many Spurs fans, but they got 'sussed' as they got about halfway up the steps ... they then turned 'tail' and scarpered at speed towards the corner of Kippax and Platt Lane Stands with City fans chasing them ... they then clambered over the small wall at the front of that open corner of the ground in a state of panic to escape the City fans, and ran across the pitch in front of the Platt Lane Stand.... i didn't notice where they went after that, but we never saw them again.

im sure i remember a load of them running on to the pitch from the kippax after the teams came out ,

they seem to run towards the main stand / platt lane corner

Were you at Newcastle 1968 Don ?
As I know that was a huge turnout to see us win the title.

There was an estimated 20,000 City fans at Newcastle that day, basically sited all around the ground ..... three of my my next door neighbours went up in their van, and said that City fans were everywhere.

The worst time for us as fans at Newcastle was in a 3-1 win for City in an FA Cup cup tie up there ..... prolonged fighting/crowd trouble in the ground meant that a lot of City fans left the ground early, some at half time, it was a really hostile atmosphere up there that day ..... not certain of the year, but i think that game was played during Gary Owens playing days.
