Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

Was at the Hull game in 88 in a van full of city and for some strange reason a couple of Sheff united fans who held a dislike for Hull. Soon as van was parked they charged a group of Hull fans and the police had the dogs on them. Remember Chelsea turning up at the Brentford game as am sure they sent one or two lads to goad city whilst waiting in ambush round a corner. Still have a small scar above my eyebrow from the trip to Hull from a full beer can I spotted too late.
That first game of the season at Boothferry Park was mad.

Was working a Saturday morning just off peters street in 1974(I think) and had my wrangler jacket on with my City patch sewn into the top pocket. That day Leeds we’re playing the rags at the swamp and I thought nothing of it till I had to catch the bus at Piccadilly gardens and the rags were everywhere. Has I had my tool box with me I thought there would be no problem but i totally forgot about my patch and three rag cunts walked towards me and one punched me on my chest were the city badge was. Just carried on walking and was glad just to get on the bus home. SCUM.
You should have dropped your tool box on his foot!

me and my mate had just got off the bus from Aytoun St and were walking across the MR forecourt round to the kippax, it was against Hull and mayhem ensued, they smacked anyone in sight,me and my pal were lucky, saw blokes with young kids in their arms with busted lips and blood everywhere, all over in about 30 seconds, maybe their revenge?
no doubt they thought they had had a result.

Clashed on the main carpark just before the game.
I thought straight away we'll have lots of fun this season, going off this.
A ball hadn't even been kicked and there was battling

I’m just about old enough to go to some of the mad games like Everton in League Cup in 87 or when City fans dismantled Boundary Park. But I was only aged around 10 at the time. But I’ve got a question. Could a normal fan who didn’t want to get involved in aggro fan just go to a pub in the city centre or near the ground and mix with the home fans in those days or was it head down in and out job?

Luck of the draw. I had chats with rival fans in pubs, some Spurs fans even bought me and my mate a drink once. Away from the mass fights you had lots of small groups of mates who would pick off opposition fans and get involved in minor skirmishes. You always had to have your wits about you.
