Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

Barnsley away April 1985 was a bit lively as well, sorry this was meant to be about Maine Road

If the police had them under observation why the f**k did they let them enter a home stand. ?

Exactly .....

I heard from my mate a week BEFORE that game that a couple of hundred Wythenshawe rags had managed to get tickets for the North Stand, and yet the police and stewards didn't look to have a clue what was going on, some police intelligence and observation eh ??

The rags were obviously in there to cause trouble and put on a bit of a show for their mates at the other end of the ground.

Tickets courtesy of MCFC employees and well known touts. Everyone knew what was going to happen except, it appeared, those whose job it was to know what was going to happen

I remain convinced that taking the players off while they were moved to the Platt Lane played a big part in the result, from what I can remember they were all over us on the pitch until the stoppage.
TBH I remember it differently. I recall being pissed off at the time because I felt we had them on the ropes even though it was pretty early on. The only time I was a bit worried was when Agent Hughes scored - I sensed a comeback was on the cards.

Sep 89 this game. 14 months before the Omega mob raided the lads gaffs. Now, we all know the old Bill were tailing our lot for a few years prior, so the cynic in me thinks that they(the rags)weren't diverted from the north stand because it was popcorn time for the old Bill.. 'let them carry on and get us all the evidence and footage we are so desperate for'. Just my cynical view.
Edit: The dawn raids were apparently in April 89, a few months before this game, me bad. I still think the old Bill let the tramps in for some reasons of this kind, maybe to get some of our raggie out of town neighbours, didn't the bogies go after them shortly after omega ?

I don't think this is right. I think Operation Omega was 1987.

Think it might of started started in 87 yes, with the fake hooligans trying to infiltrate our crew etc, but I'm talking about when the old Bill went through the doors. Footage of the Chester road shenanigans in 88 were used at the trial.

It was February 11th 1988 but the trial wasn't for ages.
Yes early 88 was the dawn raids not 87.
I remember them filming us all at Leeds Rd Huddersfield, the John Gidman equaliser January (a few weeks after the 10-1)
We scored deep into injury time and they stormed the pitch at full time.
City were up on the fencing trying to get on the pitch to meet them and I noticed guys with cameras filming us all.
I knew then it was getting closer for a bust then

I remember that game. City had a big firm there and marched into town afterwards.

I wish I had been a bit more aware of what was going on at the time. Was pissed and oblivious at most matches. A lad that went with us even said he was convinced someone was an undercover cop...he was right. With hindsight and other info that came out (pre trial and during it) there were so many clues to the fact Operation Omega was going on.
