Sure that was FA Cup? After stopping us at Chapel st, they took us along Bridgewater Way. United hanging about waiting, soon got off as there were so many blues in that mob.The usual suspects who alwats turned up at MR , Boro Birmingham , Everton Spurs , Utd , and Villa to an extent but found them absolutely woeful , anyone remember walking to old Trafford met at Victoria a good 300 got stopped on chapel street Salford , and diverted back into town and walked up Chester street road, I know hey knew we were there as a lad I know was out spotting fir them in a car, said to me wasn’t expecting that …

Yep, everyone tried to get in a pub on the left on the hill on the way up to the ground but didn’t last long.Pulled out of a pub before the game with Daft Donald and Co by the police. Some of us got in the ground, a few didn't

It might have already been discussed, but for obvious reasons, this particular game was mentioned on the Trevor Francis thread.
A seemingly meaningless midtable game, yet decades later it's remembered for all sorts of reasons
Adrian Heath opened the scoring for the visitors, but Kevin Bond was soon gesturing to the Kippax after scoring a spectacular equalizer. Bond had been a recent target for some unfair criticism, but little did we realise that Heath's career would soon follow a similar pattern
Trevor Francis was then red carded, but laughably we all hurled abuse at Neville Southall for feigning injury, when it was actually for a blatant head butt on Billy Wright.
There was also a huge and totally unexpected fracas in the Platt Lane immediately prior to kick off, and it was even mentioned in the next home match programme v West Ham
Not sure why it occurred, but it was undeniably spectacular.
Mental night.Everton away in league cup ‘88ish? fuckin mayhem, prob worst violence I’ve seen, loved a fight as a teenager then, but that was a scary night
Mike Doyle got sent off in the first ever City game I went to, I was only 7, and was apparently swearing like a trooper after it happened. It was the 4-3 win against Derby who were then champions, Franny was playing for them.Forgotten all about that game but now you’ve jogged my memory it comes back. Everyone was in uproar over the sending off. Even though it was 100% the right decision.
Makes you think how rare sendings off were before the 80s or even 90s. Apart from that one I remember Dennis Tueart for also butting a Hartlepool player. Struggling to think of a single other one off the top of my head. Although I’m sure there was one or two more.
Same with England. When David Beckham got sent off for tapping Simone on the leg, he was only the fifth England player to ever be sent off. There wasn’t a single one for the first 96 years.
