Hours you work?

48 hours a week on a rolling 2 days 2 nights 4 off, absolute sick of doing nights and weekends now but I’ve got less than 4 years until i retire and I’ll never do nights or weekends again. Shift work is the silent killer broken sleep patterns etc it’s no surprise the majority of retired firefighters look better after they’ve retired than in the job. I’ve recently moved do have a round trip of around 40 mins for a commute but that was my choice. Money isnt the best but I like my time off so it’s a trade off, yes we’d all like more money but the stress levels some people put themselves through is ridiculous.

Just started my own business being going for a year, so still in murky waters.
Work from home, clock in 8:30- 17:00, Mon - Fri , 8-1 Saturday. on emails constantly though. Its the stress that doesn't stop after you clock out. I go to bed with my clients problems and wake up with their problems. I realised then this was the way to an early grave. This resulted in stress, poor diet, binge drinking etc. Balance is key

Until last month had to change my mind set. Now when I clock out. Rigorous exercise, running, gym etc. 1 hour. Then stay off the phone and emails to the next day.
Got to completely separate myself from work. Or you no good to anyone.

Entrepreneurship is terrifying stuff, not for the feint hearted.

No wonder capitalism's thriving with all those hours worked. Do people not have a life?

Or is work their life?

Slaves to the system come to mind.

You may be correct.
It depends if whether you enjoy what you do.
As I've got older,children grown up,mortgage down to 6 years,parents dying,my attitude has changed.
My wife no longer has to work because my salary covers our needs. She packed her job in to help out with my grandkids.
I tolerate my job at present, dont hate it or love it .As soon as I don't want to do it any more I'm off and the missus will have to get a part time job ;)

The scandis have it right. Unfortunately we are becoming more and more like America except we can't match their wages!

If you want the good things in life, unfortunately you gotta work for it.

True to an extent but look at countries like Sweden and Denmark. Work a lot less, yet have much better social and public services and allegedly a much higher quality of life.

Brits love to laugh at the French but again they seem to have a better balance than us. Money isn't everything yet sadly it's the principle factor in pretty much every political decision made in this country.

I'm a self employed Electrical contractor, I tend to word between 30 and 40 hours a week. I'm lucky with the contracts ive won basically maintenance type works on residential developments so unless a call is urgent I can can close them out at my own pace within reason. So it's very flexible for looking after the family and I don't work weekends unless it's an urgent call out and I charge accordingly.

Tired old cliche i'm afraid.

Do the millions who spend 40-50 hours a week for minimum wage not work hard because many of them can't afford the good things in life.

This^^
Unfortunately,in most cases.

I've been working for thirty odd years,My missus has as well...mostly.
Holidays,football matches,Cars all cost.

Still think the punk may have a point about slaves to the system though.
Happiness is the key.

I have the balance very wrong at the moment. Leave my house at 7 and get in at 7. 5 days a week.

Constantly on the phone or on the computer when not in work sorting other hassle.

I need to de stress at some point but is going to be at least 2021 when fingers crossed I can sit back look at the changed sky line of manchester and say it was worth it!

I have more than enough financially but that is not why I do it.
