If people need someway to rationalize this, it would be 6 midfielders for 3 spots.

Aouar/Foden-------Kevin/Bernardo
--------------Rodri/Gundogan

Bernardo would be in his best midfield position to backup Kev, but can play RW and a deeper midfield role.
Foden can play across the front 3 as well.

So both can still get minutes.

It could mean Gundogan is gone, who knows.

Well normally I'd be excited about links to top players but we had Foden and Bernardo on the bench vs Lyon so what is the point?

Yeah he did, I just think if he had a bit more acceleration over 5 yards we'd be more excited by him and would probably dave him from the Gundogan comparisons. Looking at Bayern tonight they have exceptional pace all over the field, something I think we lack a little. But I'd definitely take him, he looks very good on the ball.

A game like tonight, where everything has pretty much gone wrong, is a very good test imo & he never let up.

That pass to Ekambi (who was shit all night) was lovely. Looked like he wanted to drag his team to do something but they weren’t all on the same page.

Except he’s not. There’s nothing about his frame suggesting he’d tackle anyone of the ball. He’s exactly the signing we DON’T need. We need a defensive midfielder, and he’s not it.

We need a young Fernandinho. A ball-playing, fast and physical defender. Aouar is ball-playing and fast but he wouldn’t offer much in defence. That is our problem.

Edit: Unless this guy is meant to replace Gundo/Ferna which I doubt, Foden will be pissed. And, we have a fantastic Bernardo not playing. It’s criminal.

I’ve sort of changed my mind on him tonight. I thought he was really trying to drive Lyon on and wasn’t as passive as I’d previously found. This, in a nut shell, is why scouts watch multiple games etc. and fans can have a skewed view.

I don’t think he solves our midfield issues completely but he’d be a step in the right direction because he can run for 90 mins and can manipulate the ball to play in a City team.

Irrespective, we HAVE to bring through our best academy products, and Foden is up there with the best of them from any country at his age group.

Maybe Foden rotates with Kev next year and this guy rotates with Bernardo next season.
