It is annoying that Pep does that. But, at risk of getting the happy clappers started; i believe Pep drops Foden because it's easier to bench him rather than a say Gundog or Bernardo. Foden will just accept his lot because he is young and feels that it's what he has to do. In other words, provides Pep with the excuse needed to play a more seasoned player. I don't agree with it at all but how many times have we seen this especially this past season??

Next season we can probably carry an extra player in every position anyway thanks to the ridicules schedule and zero gap between seasons.

agreed on fern , he looked shot at the end of the season, i would say a liability, comes to them all.

Agree that it all depends on Fernandinho moving back into CM, which I don’t think he will. However, maybe it’s chicken & egg scenario. I think we’re looking at a CM in which case he doesn’t play CM.....but if we don’t find a suitable CM, then he will play CM.
And I’ve possibly just confused myself with that last sentence :)
 
Well it's Wolves away first game so some pace defo needed to counter their counter!! Get him in, if we had 4 supercharged M/Fs and a fit Sergio we will devastate teams!!

You seem to be ignoring half the point I've made which is that I'd welcome him with open arms if we shed the deadwood he would be replacing but, as things stand, I don't think we'd need him.

You're better than putting words in people's mouths and taking them out when it doesn't suit you.
 
I know this thread has exploded but for me that Maine Road Ramble tweet is just them seeing what PB said and trying to get followers from piggy backing on it. I don’t see many (if any?) credible sources saying we are signing him? I can see him going somewhere else, Arsenal or Juventus. I think they would move more decisively for him. With us I feel like we love him but there’s other priorities, so I don’t see us being front of the queue personally. Hope I’m wrong, he looks class. But I just don’t see it happening.

We should be all over him. We play like 60 games a season, more than enough for KdB, Foden and him to get plenty of games. Whoever is in best form plays the important games.

At the moment if we get an injury the best option is probably Gundogan with Rodri at CDM...

Pep plays him when he has an issue. He was a bench/rotation player for the first 3 years he was here. Then he came in because Fernandinho got injured, and then this season he played because Silva couldn't run anymore or play 3x a week.

As soon as we fix the problems, Gundo will be back on the bench.

Because unless Gundogan is off, he’s not what we need. There will come a time when Gundo and Fernandinho leaves, then sure we’d need a new defensive mid and maybe Aouar but right now, no.

Our energy in midfield can be restored as easy as playing Foden or Bernardo along KDB in midfield. They are all better footballers than Aouar.

Really tired of this ”new and shiny is always better”. No it’s not. Bernardo is an outstanding footballer and Foden too. I can’t imagine this kid coming in without us risk losing any of Bernardo or Foden.
Foden waited all these years to prove himself as Silvas successor so let’s give him a full season.
 
Fern will never be seem in midfield again, his legs have gone and have for some time.
 
from what i've seen, this guy looks top drawer. even in a game where they were up against it, like last night he showed real quality at times and kept trying to create opportunities. for the price quoted its a no brainer

It could be that a surprise player is leaving.

But Foden doesn't currently replace the G.
I don't think he will next season, either. The G will still keep appearing, irrespective of where Foden plays

Hopefully this guy will minimise that, if signed.
