How do we get better next season?

Ironic coming from you and this diatribe.

We're yet to retain a Premier League title, reach the final of the Champions League and have had the week from hell.

Would you really have accepted 3-0 at Liverpool, throwing away a two goal lead to ensure we don't win the league against that lot and then losing again last night?

Patience?! The "best owner in world football" got his chequebook out maybe ten years ago. Let's not forget the diabolic human rights abuse in Abu Dhabi mixed in with the fact that he has two wives.[/QUO
Not sure if you are joking there but if you are not then you can stick your fuckin politics up your arse.

Best squad by a million miles and still lose 5-1 to Liverpool suggests Pep is not definitively the best manager in the world.
He scores very highly on player improvement, style of play, imagination.
But as repeated defeats to Klopp suggests his style has faultlines running through it that he seems unwilling to address.
17 points ahead of Klopp with a game in hand.

Klopp though is the only one to consistently top Pep though isn't he to be fair. Managers always have their nemesis somewhere along the line. Fortunately other managers are not picking up on this on a consistent basis.
Agreed. Pep should see it as a challenge to turn it around.

Come on mate - keep it football

It's fairly simple. Most teams in the premier league just can't cope with our dominance in possession so ergo our defence isn't ever properly tested against the likes of West ham or Huddersfield.
When we come up against a team that puts real pressure on our defensive line we fold more often that not
Absolutely this. What’s worse, despite, having played the scousers, and seen our defence struggle badly against the pace of their front three twice before in recent weeks, we made absolutely no attempt at tactical changes to negate such obvious strengths, last night, but rather inexplicably went out with the same failed game plan, 3 times running, and simply hoped for the best

Few new recruits in key areas are essential, getting the fernandinho alternative and eventual successor is probsbly the most important issue this summer, after that, an extra forward/striker is needed and then theres a few other improvements we can make depending on whats available.

Above all else though, we have to find a different way through in games where it's just not working. I don't necessarily mean we need a big man up front to play route one football but we need something different. Barca had Messi for that, Bayern didnt have anything and it was telling when it mattered, we need to develop something.

3 shots on target in 2 games against Liverpool tells the story, apart from the first 20 minute blitz last night they looked comfortable at the back throughout the two legs and this isn't a Mourinho bus we were up against it was a team who's biggest weakness is their inability to defend.

We need to find a balance between playing the football we do and actually creating meaningful chances which means actually shooting from time to time.

As a side note, I'd suggest more emphasis on set pieces roo. With the amount of the ball we have, we get more than probably any other team but rarely make use of them despite having some of the best dead ball specialists in the game. I like some of our inventive short corners but we really should be scoring more from them, they could provide a valuable amount of goals, especially in games where we can't break through.

Play Stones based on what? he has to earn the spot! He just isn't good enough yet, I know must of us here want Stones to succeeded because of the money splash on him and the fact that he is English but is that really enough? Vinny is a lot stronger and better than Stones, even Ota is better than Stones. I don't see what this Stones obsession is about.

based on the potential he showed earlier in the season. you can see the quality he has when on form. both him and laporte haven't played together, have loads of potential and are the future imo. he did cost a lot of money and it would be a waste if he didnt reach his potential with us. tbh i just think he is a quality player and he makes a huge difference with his passing out play.....

are other centre backs have made loads of mistakes and dont get anywhere near the grief he gets. if your looking for a defender that doesnt make mistakes there isn't one, especially with the style we play.

Just for clarification and perspective

- We are on course for the greatest top flight league season in the history of English football

- The Arsenal invincibles won one trophy. We will have two, plus the above record.

- There is a strong chance we will finish with more points than the entire La Liga season unbeaten Barcelona.

- The brilliant Chelsea team of 04/05 won the same trophies as us (current record points holders) and lost to Liverpool in the CL. We will finish with an even better league record than them, having also played miles better football.

- Think of all the success Ferguson had at United. He only ever had two seasons where he won more than (or bettered) our two domestic trophies (98/99 and 07/08).

- We will finish with a better league record than United have managed in their entire history.

- We could score the most goals in a season of any team in the history of the top flight

- This is the most successful season in the history of Manchester City

- This is only Pep's second season and we will get better and better

- Our young players will get better and better
