How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

A fair number of people will double down because no one likes to feel they've been taken for a fool and will just bury their heads in the sand. Others are doing it because they're now comfortable that their long held xenophobic outlook is socially acceptable and if the rest of its a shitshow so what. Others still have fully drunk the mail/express koolaid and appear completely brainwashed. As for anyone genuinely playing the patriotism card given what has gone before, it is indeed operating at amoeba levels of cognition.

But I have to say that the most common reaction I see from leavers I know is either buyers remorse or to just change the subject and pretend it never happened.

You know we have brexit because we wanted to stop brown people in rubber boats ‘flooding’ into Britain, but the French (bastards) weren’t doing enough to stop them, and as a result we have business-destroying shit trade deals with NZ.
So it’s obviously the French (bastards’) fault and their masters in Brussels fault that British farming is fucked.
Simple really.

And the arts - ah yes the arts - that generated £bn's for the UK economy but an industry that this emotionally stunted bunch of cock wombles in charge don't understand - they championed fishing then buggered it and left it by the wayside so why would music and the arts expect any success - as Mr Daltrey.....

Quite telling that probably three of the things we are still legit world leading in, which isn't a super long list any more, arts, culture and services; higher education; biomedicine, have been absolutely fucked by Brexit.

Do people think this thread is so one sided because there’s actually very few Brexit supporters left on the forum (Because of how shite it is) or because they know the politics forum has a sizeable remain majority and just don’t want to get into a losing battle?

I sometimes get the impression the politics subforum is on the whole much more left leaning than the rest of the site.
I find it to the left on Brexit and Conservative threads, but to the right on "culture war" threads. Probably shows the extent to which you're on a hiding to nothing on the former at the moment.

That's the disparity I find as well, and I think it's just that when a particular view takes over a thread, people with the opposite view just leave it alone.

I think there's loads of brexiteers left on here who just aren't commenting in this thread.

I'm struggling as to the school of logic this belongs to. Is it Faragist or Moggian?

Not sure theres too many that have much positive to say about brexit, thats why they are quiet. There may be a few hoping even believing that at some point they’ll see a benefit.
Many including a few of my relatives have realised they made a an error not only voting for brexit but more so falling for Johnsons get brexit done bollocks too.

Thing on tv news today about a gastro pub in Oxfordshire struggling to open . Only at the end of the clip did the manager mention that he’d lost Polish staff who were now unwilling or unable to return due to all the paperwork and red tape.

I tend to leave it when I get swamped by the "baa baa rainbow sheep, these days you get thrown in jail just for saying you're English" on the culture war threads so seems fair enough.

Most of the pro brexit posters don't bother anymore as they are on a hiding to nothing at present.

In one or two cases, change their username just to be on the safe side.

There are few brexit supporters left on the forum because we can now see that there can be no logical, rational cogent defence of brexit.
If there were one, then they could come on here and say so. They’d be very welcome.
Yes , there are a lot of left leaning contributors on this thread and I am one.
However, you do not need to have any political bias to see what an epic clusterfuck brexit is. You simply need the ability to observe, understand , and analyse facts and exercise some critical thinking.
I haven’t found this thread before. It is very cheering to read all of your views. Well thought through arguments and evidence based. Brexit will be recorded by history as the start of devastating period of damage to the nation through the systematic undermining of our democratic processes and a power grab by the executive (i.e. The Conservatives) . I look forward to reading more.

I voted to leave. Was utterly convinced it was the right thing for the nation.

Can now see it was a disastrous decision I and 17 million others made.

Nothing and I really do mean nothing good has come of the vote so far. Will the future reap the benefits promised? Perhaps with greater political leadership but that is simply never going to happen.

At a minimum we should rejoin the single market immediately.

You were lied to and manipulated. Cummings, Johnson, Murdoch even Crag Face all responsible.

Getting staff across the hospitality industry atm is a fucking nightmare, due significantly to the number of Eastern Europeans who have gone home since Brexit - and there are plenty of operators who have shelved expansion plans because they think there’s no point in opening new sites if they can’t get staff.

It’s the same with door staff, many of whom came from Eastern Europe.

What a fucking abortion.

What the fuck did people expect to happen?

We were going to be liberated from excessive red tape.
There was going to be millions of £s for the NHS.
No more johnny foreigners.
We had the whole of the rest of the world to trade with too.

Other than the ill concealed bullshit,
the effects of unintended consequences have been highlighted.

You are a brave person to admit that you were wrong.
Bravo!
