And in Europe we were happy to pay less while the US was paying more.That's not so. The USA spends more of GDP than NATO countries, but that's because it's got bases around the world, not just in Europe.

They haven't tapped into a sizable political undercurrent, they have tapped into a sizable space filled with people who get their news and viewpoints from their phones. They have soundbited who they needed with three word slogans followed by a heavy campaign on social media to promote them.Populist leaders don’t rise to power unless they can exploit the political system and tap into a sizeable public undercurrent. In that sense we all share a responsibility for allowing it to happen, imho.

A lot of Russian money was spent to sow discord throughout western Europe. The links to Vote Leave ain't exactly subtle.
The media is largely owned by a small cabal of billionaires who shape every aspect of our lives. They have laws formulated to enrich themselves by our political class.
The EU might be a monolith but it is a utter lie that the European Commission or Parliament had any real powers. Power was always with the Council of Ministers, which the UK had a substantial voice on. Do we significantly influence and reform the EU by acting like little Englanders, or by remaining and attempting reform from within?
We've decided by less than 2m votes that via a suddenly binding referendum that we'll become a global laughing stock, this will inflict generational damage.
Well fed Tory toff Cameron wanted to act the big man and show his Eurosceptic incels who was boss. We are paying the price for his hubris. That twat has vanished off the face never having faced the consequence of his actions.
May and her cleavage all she could repeat was Brexit means Brexit like that was any reason. There has until now been no debate on the consequences in any meaningful way since 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
May at least attempted to get a reasonable non nuclear option type deal Alas enter Boris stage far right. He and his cronies filibustered and denied reasoned debate, all to get little lord Fauntleroy into No10.
He approached negotiation with the EU as he approached everything else, wing it with no planning. The scale of his vanity is breathtaking.
My father in law was in a care home in March 2020. As soon as my wife told me he'd got covid and had been sent to intensive care, I knew it was a death sentence. Having seen what my wife, daughter and family went through being unable to be with their father/grandfather as he lay dying,it still breaks my heart.
To find out the slug and his sycophants were living it up and doing what they wanted as we all endured lockdown fills me with anger. Nothing's forgotten.
Whoever gets anointed in the forthcoming beauty contest I wonder if it will change the lives of my fellow citizens, will they rely on food banks or cry themselves to sleep wondering if they can pay their mortgage this month? Will they even have a job in 6 months? Hope it's a mild winter cos an awful lot of people won't be able contribute to the billion pound profits of the utilities.
Probably be a winter election and I'm worried that the next sap will be returned with a huge majority when they find out starmer dyes his hair or that Rayner's a ginger.
It is a truism that you get the politicians and government that you deserve, not those that you want.
If you're in Ulster, you're reaping the benefits of the Good Friday agreement and it's Brexit action. Do people there feel much benefit in dogmatically claiming their Britishness for a country that has historically given fuck all damns about them? Fifty years on never mind Bloody Sunday, Ballymurphy has never been reviewed.
Our neighbours to the North, presumably all pasty faced, ginger fried Mars bar eating buckfast drinkers?!? My daughter goes to uni in Aberdeen and I think it's pretty special. The country hasn't returned a conservative government since the 1950s, like Ulster didn't vote for Brexit, but guess what they're fucked too, for historically being colonised by a bunch of effete wankers, to paraphrase Trainspotting! Under these pro union conservatives, the Scots want out. A pipe dream perhaps but more likely than since the 1970s. Scots Labour is utterly irrelevant as people became utterly complacent and the SNP became credible and respectable. Quite an achievement considering that when they were formed in the 1930s they had a strongly pro Nazi leadership, even as recently as the late 1960s.
When times are difficult it's easy to blame those who talk funny, those who look different or those who think differently. Most people most of the time are alright. Some aren't. I hope we can have a free and just society but is that just as much of a dream as the oven ready Brexit?!

The point I was trying to make is that the EU members have been low in our defence spending for years. It’s only recently that there has been a greater commitment to spend more.
