How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

And that’s how it seemed and yet as John Hume said in 1998 when asked about the talks that seemed like they were falling apart;

I am neither optimistic nor pessimistic. I’m hopeful.

I very much doubt I’ll see a United Ireland in my lifetime, but who knows? What does a United Ireland even mean anymore? None of us know.
As long as my family over there exist and their ilk, therell never be a u****d Ireland. The hatred is too deep.

Like I said, what does a United Ireland even mean anymore.

There should not even be the conversation of a referendum north or south until all the answers are worked out.
The GFA is an ingeniously worded framework for the journey ahead.
To my mind it should be and is a living document that needs to be constantly oiled and worked with.

It does not say what the destination is.
It could change several times in the future perhaps.
This is why I think whatever the initial destination, the GFA itself must survive and that destination must be compatible with it’s framework.

Therefore, I don’t want a discussion on a referendum for unification down south until parties north and south have already worked out these answers and can present a manifesto to us that spells out what that future looks like.

So in short, you say it won’t happen because the hatred is too deep. I think you may be currently right, but hope you won’t always be.

I’m just curious as to what impact Scottish Independence would have on the NI problem. The whole Ireland thing won’t solve itself, external factors might.

You and me both.
We are still so tied to British politics regardless of independence and the obvious ties with NI.
Brexit has shown that.
What happens in the UK still affects us.

None of my business what happens in Scotland but part of me is so curious about what would happen should you take the plunge and leave the UK.

From your own point of view I think you would have the advantage of not suffering partition and knowledge of our experiences. You’d have a much better start than we had and most likely would have fast entry back into the EU.

But from our point of view it would be huge. Who knows what it would be the catalyst for.

eggs from caged Mexican hens............. Brexit ideology is mad

Great line in there about us raising Mexico’s standards by persuasion, while they enable water companies here to dump tons of human shit into our waterways.

……they knew what they were voting for.
Actually, I’m beginning to suspect that they really hadn’t a clue what they were voting for.
I‘ve got a tiny little inkling, a vague suspicion, just the merest hint that what they were voting for in their heads bore no relation whatsoever to the horrible truth.
just a thought!!
