I am in complete sympathy with your sentiments but really can't agree that we'll be welcomed back into the EU with a relatively smooth transition.
How many years did it take many UK governments to negotiate concessions, opt outs and the like. Most Europeans were envious of this and are probably pissing themselves that all the concessions and greater accountability we strive for, we've thrown away.
It really is an act of criminal irresponsibility, particularly to future generations. It has shown up the entire political class as the strawmen they are, and will accelerate the break up of the UK.
Brexit is the very public shame that literally no one dare speak off. Not a sensible grown up attitude which has bemused and alarmed the EU and the Americans.
There will be a rapprochment with the EU but not for at least the next 5 years, probably longer. We we go back to the negotiating table with our tail between our legs, we ain't getting any opt outs, we'll be a very junior partner, probably have to adopt the Euro and won't be regarded as trustworthy partners. Still we got all those oven ready trade deals, so all good?!?!
We are a fucking laughing stock.
