The Government's ministerial cars are to be made outside of the UK following supply chain issues hampered by Brexit. It meant UK car makers were 'unable to meet the requirements' of the Metropolitan Police protection service, it has been revealed.

Armoured Jaguar XJs are to be swapped for Baden-Württemberg-assembled Audi A8s, the Met confirmed over the summer. But now the decision behind it has emerged.

No British car maker is "able to meet the requirements of the tender", which prompted the Met's decision, as reported in The Independent. It is a further blow to the UK car industry as production here hit its lowest level since 1956 after skill shortages and supply chain issues were compounded by Brexit and the pandemic.

In 2016, the UK produced 1.7 million vehicles per year, but since the EU referendum, that number has plummeted to just 786,000.

I’ve always thought Botham personified Brexit well. He’s thick in the head, daft as a brush but totally unaware of both so extremely verbose.

And, most importantly, he’s rich enough to feel not one effect of Brexit himself…..
