The problem with Brexit is that it became an emotional issue, not a logical one, so the conditions for rejoining just don’t exist and won’t exist while it remains an emotional issue. The likelihood that we would be readmitted only on less favourable terms just adds to that.
However, whilst the country voted to leave the EU it did NOT vote to leave the single market. What we as a country need at the moment is undoubtedly for our economy to grow. Departure from the single market has had catastrophic effects on trade that could easily be reversed. Returning to the single market would not only stimulate growth, but it would address the Northern Ireland issues and would divert some pressure away from a Indyref 2.
But will they do it?
No. Because they’re zealots.
And will Labour do it, or commit to doing it?
No, because they’re too scared of the issue.
It remains, as it always was, a complete shit show.
