How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

some was asking the other day about the KITE mark and I explained that we were introducing the UKCA so yes we were doing one of our own - thus doubling the costs to business to test things sold here and abroad. Well guess what - that Brexit Benefit was put off (again) for another two years yesterday.........

That was always going to be the case.

But no exports will be allowed into the EU unless they meet EU standards! So it's moot. It's really stupid to set up our own standards, at enormous expense, when no one but us will recognise the standard.

Even the most feather-brained, drooling Brexiter should see that. But they won't, because they want total separation. This would be fine if we were not a trading nation, but we are. Indeed, we are not a big enough market to be anything else.

To draw a parallel, £10 notes are only valuable because we all accept them as such. If I write '£10 note' on a piece of paper (which is inherently equally valuable) no one will accept it, unless they are incredibly stupid.

Let's put it this way. You write £10 on that piece of paper, I can accept it on the grounds that, guess what? You don't pay up, I'll break your fucking legs and jail you for 10 years minimum. But I can't actually carry out that threat? That note is fucking worthless. That's what it means to me.

But even a £10 note is only a tradeable thing that you can spend in any shop. If you went to the Bank of England and asked for its value, they would give you another, or two £5s. It has no inherent value at all, except that all of us in the UK are agreed that it has.

A British 'kitemark' or whatever you call it has no possible value outside the UK. And not in it, if people have any sense. If it's not up to EU standards, it's inadequate. If it's equal to them, it's pointless. There is no way on God's green earth that it will be above EU standards. That's not what Brexit was about. It was about cutting standards and protections, on the grounds that cnuts like Rees-Mogg think them too good as they are and that we should all accept shoddy goods. Stupid, short-sighted, and dangerous.

Watching a you-tube vid with the bizarre Rees mogg pretty much telling us that we can do what we like with standards because we are the EUs largest trading partner, and they will just suck it up.
It seems that he has completely missed the point of how much the remaining EU members are proud of, and will jealously guard the standards and ethics of the single market and the CU.
Is he really wilfully that stupid and ignorant, or does he really believe the garbage that falls from his own mouth?

The Bank of England promises to pay the bearer on demand the sum of ten pounds so if you give them a tenner, they’ll just give it straight back probably. Promise kept.

If I give you a piece of paper saying I promise to pay you £10 at some stage in the future, it's a legal contract.

None of the above. He's a devious liar who thinks enough people do believe the garbage.

That's just evidence in case of default / enforcement. (In some jurisdictions it may be necessary, but not everywhere.)
Maybe not everywhere but the vast majority of jurisdictions as far as I'm aware.

I think he believes you’ll believe the garbage that falls from his mouth.

So, when will conversations commence about rejoining?
Conversations first need to be held about the reality of what leaving has actually done. Conversations then need to be held about what any ‘new’ relationship- closer than it currently is- with the European Union could entail. Until those conversations are held, there can be no conversation about rejoining. And all the time, the European Union is itself changing.

Currently, however, there is no appetite in either large party to begin that initial conversation, with both increasingly using Truss/Kwarteng as convenient scapegoats so as to avoid mentioning it. Even on the BBC, the ‘B’ issue is rarely raised outright by the interviewer; it tends either to be raised by a guest or asked on behalf of a viewer, so in this climate, conversations are unlikely.

Don't listen to the business news on radio 4 at 6.15. Just occasionally you'll hear it named, but usually you'll be screaming "it's Brexit, stupid" as they dance round the BBC Voldemort. I suspect they get a memo every time it leaks out (like BBC local radio stations in the 80s were told not to give too much airtime to CND).
