How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

It’s actually quite sad that some Brexiteers have resorted to using scandals amongst a few corrupt EU politicians as vindication for their Brexit stance in spite of the ongoing disaster unfolding as our economy falls further and further behind its peers.
Whatever makes you happy.
It‘s genuinely staggering that any sane person would cite corruption in politics as a point of differentiation that distinguishes us positively from the EU, given our national politics is rotten to the core and utterly broken.

If you lived around here, the heart of leave country, the only reason we left was because of 'forinners'. Even today you only have to hear the evil rhetoric over these 'forinners' in hotel's to realise that if we had another vote today they are quite happy to vote the same way even though it has shown to be the disaster it has been. They would rather see the country go to the wall than change their minds.
That is so sad. I still have a concern that the Tory party will find a way to mobilise this vote again at the next GE and things will be a damn sight closer than they should be.

They will mobilise it, but there is a hardcore of voters that will vote conservative no matter what, irrespective of how incompetent, dishonest or corrupt they are. The polls are showing the tories at around 25% at the moment, and my guess is that anybody who is still registering an intention to vote tory at the moment will never vote any other way.

I would say your leave voting furriner hating tory in Lincolnshire is part of that group. IIRC Lincolnshire stayed tory at the time of the Blair landslide, and I suspect they will remain tory next time too, no matter what the rest of the country does. Lincolnshire is not, in other words, where the next election will be won and lost.

The question is whether that element that would normally vote tory but at the moment is feeling repelled by a combination of criminality, corruption, dishonesty and simple lack of talent will drift back to the fold over the next two years.

You can already see the attempt to focus on immigration etc. My guess is they will be hoping that the recession will bottom out and things may be slightly on the up, give away budget including the public sector pay rises they are holding back from now and a load more 'send em back' rhetoric.

Was in Spalding yesterday and reckon that’s even more reactionary than Boston!

Whilst on holiday I got talking about darts to a clearly affluent builder from Gainsborough whose missus had hair like Peter “Snakebite” Wright. Took him no time at all to start using derogatory terms about foreigners after which I removed myself from that conversation. The fact that he was so prepared to do that with someone he had just met suggests it must be the prevailing view where he came from. I would have thought most racists would be at least a little circumspect when talking to someone they don’t know unless it’s seen as acceptable and normal in their daily lives.

That makes me a c*nt then. ;-)

TBH I’m not bothered if you and your remain c*nts who populate this thread think I’m a c*nt.

The president of the European Parliament has warned that "European democracy is under attack", following allegations that Qatar bribed EU officials to win influence.

Roberta Metsola said that "open, free, democratic societies are under attack".

Not a huge surprise that someone who seems to be glued to the DM website turns out to be a big fan of Brexit..

Living in Spain for large periods of my life I’ve met a million and one blokes (they are mainly blokes who say this shit) who could just as well be the same person you’re talking about.
It’s deeply imbedded for many and it’s one of the reasons my opinion of several aspects of the U.K. is what it is.
Some deeply unpleasant individuals knocking about.

It seems to be in all parts of the world. Just recently in the States a man shot a black Airbnb guest in the leg while he was going out for groceries in San Diego, California. You don’t have to guess who the shooter was but you can bet he has strong views on the border…and it’s not the one with Canada.

And I bet every single one of them voted for Brexit.

I see that Rishi made another speech on immigration, today. They believe that it is the only way to appease their core vote, and the saddest part of all is that is probably the truth.

It’s the only subject that has any hope of keeping the cunts in power so expect it to be ramped up over the coming months.

Brexit has been and was always gonna be a disaster.

My wife has had a shop ( florist) for the last 10 years, it's been very hard work on her behalf, proper blood, sweat n tears, never been massive profits but tidy enough, but she's had to make a decision thats broken her.
Come January she's closing up, having to lay 3 girls off, which has massive consequences on there lives.
Everything has gone up, energy, fuel, rent the lot, the VAT man is crippling her, but the biggest increase is the cost of the flowers, we were comparing her Xmas order from 2 years ago to the one she placed yesterday, its more than double, red roses were 60p a stem, now £1.25, the Dutch lads said its the same everywhere, quite as fuck, the import costs are through the roof and that's all to do with Brexit, it's only one small shop but the cluster fuck caused by Brexit its one of many, goodbye to the high Street.
