How do you assess our transfer business?

Exactly how I feel too. Completely agree with all those points. I just don't understand why we're not more aggressive in the transfer market, especially after winning that CAS appeal.

It was an ideal opportunity to rebuild, address the fact we don't have enough pace in the side and are shit at defending and attacking corners, and don't have anyone who can play like Fern used to.
What do you mean by aggressive in the transfer market?

If you were in charge, what would you do differently and how successful do you think you might be?

I think in order for this to be a good window we need to sort koulibaly out early this week and maybe sign aaour
I think aki and Torres are good signings but only replacing sane and Garcia
Think we need to be more solid and get off to a good start and playing with confidence. Definitely be up there in the league
Can’t see us conquering Europe as it stands
I have a feeling we might try a couple of last minute deadline signings and koulibaly might well be one of them, maybe Aaour too.

If this was a normal summer window on the day of the season starting you’d have to say it’s been very underwhelming. When you finish as far behind the winners as we did last season it calls for substantial changes yet we’ve not really strengthened the starting 11 yet. However, it’s not a normal season, everything is up in the air and so it’s wrong to judge the window like a normal one. there’s still about a month left yet and whilst it’s not ideal to not have what we want at the start of the season nothing about the last 6 months has been ideal. No need for this thread until the windows closed.

We've needed to bring in - at a minimum - a world class central defender, a competent left back, a midfielder with some legs and a world class centre forward. As it stands were short in all these.

I really think Koulibaly is the big one. Without him we've no chance of winning the major trophies. Left back seems to be another year of making do and we aren't making moves from what I can see on Auour. As for forwards, again nothing.

It's really simple we either strengthen and do it soon or face a scrap for the top four. Not the title, the top four. The team last year was knackered and had no pace or energy. We have to shake it up.

Bayern Munich won their treble with Boateng in central defence. You don't have to be perfect to win stuff if you have a few world class players.

It’s not been a normal close season and restart. I’ll reserve judgment until the transfer window closes, even though we’d ideally have all targets sorted earlier.

If we suddenly had the situation sprung on us re positions, we could say we are unlucky due to the timing of Covid.

But we were relying on an injury prone cb getting us over the line in both of Pep's title seasons, Fern was already in the later stages of his career along with Otamendi on the slide & we had no real left back.

No excuse for not being all over those problems in advance of this window & it makes you wonder if we are also acting with enough urgency for next year, in the knowledge that Aguero could soon become a problem.

With Koulibaly I have same feeling as with Bony. Many were adamant on this forum that Bony will be the final piece in the jigshaw.
Like imagine if he scored all those goals at Swansea, how much he will score with Yaya, Silva, Nasri, Navas, Kolarov feeding him.
Turned out to be utter flop.

No side will ever be perfect - I doubt anyone would put Delph or Zinchenko in their top 500 list of great left backs!! :)

However last season we were playing too many players out of position. We can't keep doing it as it costs us. Last season was a great chance to have a crack at the CL but problems in defence and a slow midfield lost us the game. We need to freshen the team yp
