How do you assess our transfer business?

Again that's a lot of hope, including hoping Rodri having a better year.

It just seems insane to me that for all the money that has been spent, all the waiting to have the dream manager of Pep that we should go into this season (after a poor previous one) so unbalanced, so many weak areas of the team, and so much uncertainty.

Tbh I cannot see us not signing a central defender as a minimum , but if we have identified that player as KK, it is obviously a bit of a nightmare trying to do business with ADL.

Failing that I am sure we will have identified alternatives, although with the way that Pep plays , finding suitable players will be restricted.

Can't see it happening but I would like to see a better midfield partner for Rodri , as the Rodri/Gunodgan partnership is far too immobile imo.

A bit frustrating with the first game of the season upon us, but I suspect that moving players out is a big issue and holding incoming transfers up.

It doesn't matter who I say as you'll take offence and argue against it.

If we had the best squad we wouldn't have finished 18 points behind last season - and we still haven't fixed the main reasons why we finished so far (and no it wasn't VAR).
Name a team with a better squad and I'll argue it yes. When we add a centre back to go with Ake and Torres as well as having Laporte back I think we'll have fixed the problems. This year more than ever a deeper squad will be needed as I've said I think we have the deepest.

How would you describe the other 18 teams in the PL that finished a country mile behind us last season? We are stronger than we were last season with the addition of Ake, Torres, a fit Laporte, Foden getting more time and better every game, hopefully a back to form Bernardo. Add hopefully another strong right side CB, Rodri second season settled in and things are exactly looking as grim as you make out.

That's a lot of hopefullys. I'd like to share in your optimism, but banking on all our key players remaining fit, Bernardo returning to his best form, our two additions starting strongly and Rodri magically transforming himself seems like you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

I still think Liverpool are the team to beat, hardly a weak link in their starting 11 and now they've added Thiago.

I think Chelsea have had a fantastic transfer window and I wish we got Havertz and Werner.

I think we may have a deeper squad however not in the key areas we need. I know the window shuts in 3 weeks but the 1st game is on Monday and we still do not have the central defender we need (and we've needed for 3 seasons.)

Our left back area is weak, with only Mendy a recognised LB and he is erratic.

Gundogan and Rodi are just not good enough for the role they are asked to play. We needed an energetic midfielder like Fernandinho. Without him in midfield last season we began to look very shaky.

Aguero is coming off a torn meniscus which for an ordinary person can take 8 months to fully recover. Which means we may only have 1 recognised striker at times this season.

Pep still hasn't signed a new contract. The longer that goes on the bigger the cloud over the squad.

These are my concerns.

I don't understand why the club has left it so late to try and fix some of them or not fix them at all.

FFS, where exactly are the hopefuls in the fact that we have signed 2 players in key positions, that Laporte is now back injury free, that foden is already showing he is going to be an absolute world class player? They arent debatable, they are facts. The negativity on this site from some is rediculous. Yes we might get injuries, yes players might take time to settle in, but we are still one of the best teams in world football with every chance of winning the lot again.

Do you think Chelsea fans are all sat at home wiping their fannies wondering if their new players will settle in or not? Or if someone is going to get injured? No they wont, they will be optimistic and looking forward to the challenge.

The squad I expect next season

Ederson Steffen
Walker Cancelo Mendy
Laporte Ake, ??????? Stones
Rodri Gundogan, Fernandinho
KDB, Bernardo, Foden
Torres, Mahrez Sterling
Aguero Jesus.

So 20 players assuming we get a centre back imo give us a strong 11 and bench with a couple left over.Only way to strengthen would be to sell, can't see a stronger squad than that and in a congested season squad strength will be vital.

Wasn't Laporte fit for the start of last season? I don't know why you assume that our luck will just play out better this season. Perhaps our key players do stay fit all season, but perhaps we suffer worse injuries than last season. I guess that I base my expectations around what we did last season and what we have done subsequently to address those issues (not much).

You are basing your argument on quantity instead of quality, Liverpool have a smaller squad BUT their starting 11 is stronger. They ARE the team to beat.
