How do you respond to this?

I used to be a barber and i heard it from alot of the pensioners who were city fans,How they used to go to maine road every week after the war,City one week and whoever was playing the rags the next that is why their attendances were up it was full of BLUES.

So there attendance went up when they actually played in MANCHESTER

Yes mate, they gained more support locally as it opened them up to a bigger audience locally, many Blues began to follow United when they left for various reasons, would still be interesting to compare stats for attendances pre war though.

Their popularity swelled worldwide due to the air disaster aswell as locally, my own relatives who were blue and changed to red as a result will testify to this( and I`m talking 99% here, the only one not to live on Platt Lane), understandably so imo, it was still a time where when things like this happened it didn`t matter what colour you were you did what you could to help someone in trouble.
United fans can argue the toss all they want and claim it was some unbelievable, never before seen, unique brand of football, but many people will be old enough to know people who were there at the time and give you the thoughts and feeling of those days and it was about getting behind a club where a lot of young lads lost their lives and I`d certainly take their words over anybody elses.

manchester central got better attendences than the rags and they didnt play in he league.
the rags asked us to save them on this occasion too.its all in gary james book.

What some Utd fan wrote on another website.

Just some interesting information for you.

Most blues like to say that the reason we have a larger fan base is because of munich. In the years between 1946-1957 we averaged a gate of 42,362 whereas our friendly bitter neighbours averaged 35, 913.

Even more interestingly, between 1946 and 1949 when united played at maine rd whilst reconstruction work was being done to OT after the bombings during the war, in the 1st season city won the league, but united had an average attendance of 4,662 more than city at thier own stadium. In the second season, United had an average attendance of more than 12,165 more than city at thier own stadium. In the third season, United had an average attendance of 10,109 more than city at thier own ground.

United have a higher average attendance than city for every decade since the 1940's. Between 1947 and the year before munich, there was an average of almost 7,000 more united fans attending games than city.

City were a more successful club during the 70's, yet there was a difference of over 13,000 in our average attendances, with united being the best supported club of the decade.

Manchester is blue?? give me a fucking break.

****************************************************
When we helped them out after the war,my dad,who was a blue, went to see city one week rags the next, I am not saying all blues, but I am sure lots did. Don`t think rag fans would attend citys home games at the same time, that is the reason why their average was more than ours at maine rd.
I wish they had shared a ground with Bolton instead to be honest. Ungreatfull bastards if you ask me.

I'm pretty sure Gary James said that the Manchester Met research was based on the assumption that City had 15,000 season ticket holders when, in fact, we actually had 25,000 in the season they were comparing. Basically the results probably significantly underestimate just how Blue Manchester is.

Attendances in the late 40's / 50's can be explained by Blues going to Maine Road when the rags were playing. The fact that our attendances were only marginally lower when we were a division below and were comparable in the same division says it all.

I've always had the impression that in the 70's and 80's the rags attendances were bolstered by the post-munich crowd. Not just cockney's, but people from places like Blackpool, Burnley and Preston who chose to support the rags when their local sides went down the pan.

City have the overall record for a game outside London and Glasgow. The rags have the record for a league game.
