How far will the fall be before evasive action is taken?

Prem results since November:
d l w l w l w d w d w d w l
That's less than 1.6 points a game. That will put us on 67 points for the season.
That would put us outside the top 4 in the last 5 seasons.
Anyone who thinks were safely top 4 is not looking at the facts.
I think we'll get more than that but even that would leave the rags needing 9 wins from 13 I don't see them getting that. The last 5 seasons are irrelevant this year.

And yet our form over the last 10 games is still =3rd best.

Spurs 22
Leicester 21
Arsenal 18
City 18
Southampton 16
West Ham 16
Bournemouth 15
Chelsea 15
Everton 13
Swansea 13
Liverpool 12
United 12
Newcastle 11
Stoke 11
Watford 11
Aston Villa 10
Norwich 10
West Brom 10
Palace 9
Sunderland 8

The thing is, if we win the League cup it's still a reasonably successful year. Pellegrini is a good manager, he's done the job he came in to do and more, which was keep a steady ship and remain competitive until Pep comes. Let's see where we finish before flapping, under Pellegrini we've finished strongly the in previous seasons. If we can piece together 5 or 6 wins we'll win the league.

1.6 x 38 games = 60 points over the course of a full season. Southampton finished 7th last season with 60 points. It is truly incredible that some fans don't think there is much wrong.

I wouldn't claim any moral victory abt that as I would say we've been pretty below par in all ten, even the two drubbings of palace and sunderland too.

I don't think there is a single supporter that "don't think there is much wrong".

You still have to put it in context of what everyone else is doing, and nobody is running away from anybody else, though looking at the most recent form, Spurs and Leicester could, it will be interesting to see how the 2 fixtures next Sunday go, two home wins puts it all right back into the mix.

When United were winning yesterday, top 4 was a major worry. Over the last 6 games their form is as good/bad/average as ours is.
With the way we are playing you wouldn't bet against us losing against spurs.
Fortunately, United didn't win, so a reasonable buffer remains. No team, apart from Leicester and to a point spurs, seem capable of putting any kind of run together, or showing the form that is required.
The fact that others around us continue to drop points, means we *probably* don't have to worry about top 4, too much. Yet, anyway.

The thing is, the entire complexion of the league could change next week, with the top 4 playing each other.

What's worrying is we just don't look like turning the corner. We haven't played well, across a whole 90 minutes, for months, and the injuries are piling up. Maybe a pointless stat, but we have conceded more goals at home that Sunderland, and Villa......that is not good, no matter how you look at it. At one point it was considered a positive that we have the 'big' teams (arsenal, Leicester, spurs) to come to us. However, the way we perform against the better sides is pretty abysmal, so it's just as likely we will lose to Spurs and Arsenal - to suggest otherwise would be naïve.

The form of others means, as I said, we should be pretty much safe for top 4. The league is still there if we actually find our form, but it just doesn't look like that is going to happen.

Well I wouldn't call dropping points and positions on a regular basis an upward trajectory that's for sure.
Here's our "trajectory over the last 50 games.

The upward bit from games 32 to 21 is the unbeaten run at the end of last season and the beginning of this one. Apart from that, it's down all the way. He's literally taken us backwards.

Plenty still refer to us being in 4 competitions without really considering our realistic chances of winning them, based on our form and "quality". We have a good chance of winning the Capital One Cup. A fair chance of winning the FA Cup. We are now outsiders for the Premier League and I believe that as a 36 year old male I have as much chance of winning Miss World as this City team does of winning the Champions League.

As for putting it into context I am looking at a league table that has Leicester City top, that is the only context I need to know that City are vastly underperforming. The league is competitive only because City are so poor. Would the league be this competitive if Barca, Real or Bayern were in it? I don't believe it would.
