How High...

As a Manc growing up in Sheffield I trialed for Sheffield Boys but to be honest got too nervous and cocked it all up.My Dad played for Uniteds Youth in the 50s(he is a Blue, long story)and I am hoping my youngest will do better than me and my Dad as he has been picked for starter trials at Macc Town.He is a defender who plays a little like a cross between Andy Morrison and Gerry Gow with a little Robinho thrown in!A lot of it is in the head and he never worries about anything so he has a good start.

Played for my County & RAF Under 21's. Could have played Rugby Union at a similar level too but chose footie. Wish I hadn't now cos I got injured playing football 18 years ago and have never recovered properly :-(

I got asked to go training with Southport for a trial when I was 18 and they were in Conference North at the time (they got promoted that season). I then proceeded to tear my cruciates and just basically bugger my knee up playing 5-a-side with work! Haven't played 11-a-side in over 5 years and don't think my current levels of fitness would be up to any standard of football!!

My Uncle played for City's youth in his teens in the 60's and they asked to sign him as a pro and he turned it down. What a clown!!

When I was 14 played for my County, thats COUNTY, for anyone who mis reads, but scored an OG, never played again for them, I remember training once the coach blew his whistle told us to stop playing and come in, I walked over to him with the others, with a ball under my arm, he went balistic, he said "this is football son, I never ever want to see you or anyone else apart from the goalie touch a ball with his hands EVER" I'll always remember that.

my nickname in football circles is "The white Kanu", says all you need to know.

I can see that (;-)

I played a bit for my primary school (Burgess Becker in Harpurhey), but we got banned from the league for bricking the opposing teams (Crosslee in Blackley) parents cars

Played for my year at secondary school (Moston Brook), again team banned for fighting and vandalising a mini bus at North Manc for boys

Made one appreance for Shena Simon college, not banned this time but we did rob (lifted loads of sweets etc..) a petrol station on the way back from the game

career finished with a couple of dazzling displays for Oxford Brookes University 4th team...no bans and it gave me easy access to the girls football, netball and rugby teams....(;-)

Played county rep level.. Lancashire AND West Riding Yorks (Played for Wilsden FC in Yorkshire when I lived there)

Played in Lancashire league, NW Counties, SE Lancs, Lancs & Cheshire & Manchester league with Wilsonians..

At the age of 42 was still playing for Streetbridge in Ashton Sunday league... :-)

Was invited to go to Hyde United (early 80's), but declined to stay with Royton.. I preferred playing with mates..

Me and the boys a bit ago.
