How long will the rebuild take?

No-one can look into the future and see what needs to happen, and then act on it with every bit of certainty in success. But when we look back two seasons when we won the treble then we looked well set for dominance for years to come. But with senior players such as Mahrez, Laporte and Gundogan feeling they had done enough and were ready to go for an easier yet wealthier way of life then it must have knocked Pep back a few places. Losing some of the most important members with Txiki not coming up with similar quality replacements, plus the mid season 115 accusations then it came as a miracle that we still won the title and World Club Cup.
But the accusations didn't go away and I think that this lingering on must be having some negativity on those at the top. How can our club carry on as before until we know for sure as to what is going to happen?

With all due respect mate, I really don't think you know how football works.

All Guardiola had to do when he arrived was identify those existing players who could or couldn't work in his system. He then replaced the few who couldn't with players who could. It's not rocket science. Football is a simple game.

Over subsequent seasons, all he's had to do is 'tweak' here and there. Obviously, he's been exceptionally successful, thanks to Txiki and himself identifying the right players to fit his system.

The simple fact is that the foundations had already been laid by Mancini and Pellegrini, alongside Gary Cook and Txiki respectively.

The current situation is that the foundations have not been adequately maintained over the past couple of seasons. As such, our succession planning in respect of players like KDB, Gundogan, Bernardo, Mahrez, etc has been very poor.

The rebuild will be a two or three season job, and Pep won't be around to see it through. In the circumstances, unless he plans to stay on at City as DoF in the future, I think it would be wrong for him to be allowed to influence / predetermine his successor's team plans.

A new broom should be allowed to sweep clean.
However Pep will start the ball rolling hence why he was given a 2 year deal. If the board had any real issues with Pep staying and being part of the rebuild he would have been replaced.

The rebuild will be big. We need a right back, we have 2 central defenders who are always injured, the midfield is old and slow, our wingers must be the most unproductive players playing that position in the league, and we need a backup striker.

Apart from that nothing else needs doing, well apart from maybe a keeper.

Central defender for me would be Van De Ven from Spurs. Quality player.
Midfield x 2 - Any from Zubimendi, Ederson, Wirtz,
Forward. I love Isak at Newcastle

Left back?

Truth is we don’t know how much of a rebuild we need.

It could be 5/7 players or it could be as little as 2/3.

2 midfielders for me with injuries easing would be enough. A creative outlet and a physical, athletic partner for Rodri.

A Fern type signing would be unreal at this point. Both playing together and dominating midfield.

It’s not an easy question. The club won’t do wholesale changes due to finance. The next 2 windows I would predict 5 in total with a few legends departing.

Assuming we do lose quite a few players before next season including Walker, Kev, Ederson and some of Silva, Gundog and Grealish I can see us needing 5-6 players

Which isn’t that bad.

We could sign absolute ballers. The recent track record hasn’t been great but a big part of that was not to replace Kev/bernie etc but to compliment them and challenge them to keep the level high. Unfortunately the new players have failed to overtake the old guard.

Transfer can be so fucking tricky. If we get 3 out of 5 right then I would take that now
