How many more people will now become City fans?

Remember a couple of weeks back when Liverpool fans were all over social media because Liverpool FC has made history by becoming the first Premier League club to amass 10 million subscribers on YouTube.

Look at City’s overall jump since 2023, 27.5mill!

Not sure where they are getting the X following from, says17.5 million on the account....the Instagram one is the correct

My dad was a Wolves supporter from Shropshire. The family moved to the Manchester area in the late 1940s. Over the next ten years Wolves had their greatest era with three league titles and two FA Cups.

He remained a Wolves supporter although he did have a season ticket in the North Stand at City for a couple of years in the mid 1970s before his death.
Wolves were the biggest team of that era along with newcastle. It was only the munich aircrash that catapulted united into number 1 uk household choice

While I was in Marseille there was a taxi driver of Algerian descent who asked me where I was from, I said Manchester, it's easier than the whole conversation about the tiny hamlet in France where I live, he replied "Mahrez" then he shocked me cos he then said " Before that Ali Benarbia" so there's a taxi driver in Marseille who knows us when we were shit!

i lived between Poitiers and Niort. One lad in my hamlet, in his late twenties had never heard of Mohammed Ali.

At a guess, it's probably because there are separate official accounts for different languages.

The order for official English language twitter account followers is:

Real Madrid: 50.8m
Barca: 48.7m
ManUre: 37.7m
Chelsea: 25.6m
Liverpool: 24.4m
Arsenal: 22.3m
Manchester City: 17.5m
PSG: 15m

You can order the CIES figures by platform too. Arsenal's figures are probably the ones making me second guess whether it is just about different language versions. To go from 22.3m to 22.8m, is a pretty small jump, or maybe they they haven't bothered with different language versions much on Twitter?

I wouldn't make too much of the X followers in isolation, as popular as it is. Chelsea definitely aren't bigger than Liverpool or Arsenal and I doubt they are bigger than City anymore overall. It's just one social media platform and social media counts are just one of many metrics you can use to estimate a club's popularity. All we can get is a rough idea of fanbase size, but taking all the different metrics available these days in, it shows how stupid/deluded/ignorant some of the opinions pushed out in the media, about City's fanbase size, are.

...

So just for our cretinous haters over at talkSPORT and on the wanna be Twitter journalist sphere, who can't stop lying about which clubs are 'still' (not getting into that again) bigger than City.

English speaking Twitter followers continued:

Spurs: 8.8m
Newcastle: 2.7m
Leeds: 1m
Celtic: 975k
Rangers: 805k

Loads of Mahrez fanboys on social media when we signed him. I suspect they’d have marketed the European Super League to them for the subscription rates.
