How many points to win the league?

To enquire about the nature of a player's personal / family issues would be irresponsible. But I DIDN'T propose that. So neither stupid nor selfish.

To enquire about the duration of a player's non-availability for selection is a different matter altogether. No more personally intrusive than noting how long Kevin, Jesus, Mendy or Foden might be unavailable.

Now you may hold a different view and that's fine. But don't post in an abusive manner unless you wish to be perceived negatively by other contributors. Your choice.
It is stupid because city have made it clear it is a personal problem which could mean lots of different things, some of them there is no definite duration. David Silva is an absolute legend and also a very honest player so for me he can have as long as he needs without having to satisfy my impatience by giving me a date. Therefore in my opinion making you selfish.
Obviously I hold a different view than you but I wasn't abusive and I also do not care how I am perceived by other contributors. I was merely giving my opinion about your statement.

As it stands City we need another 38 points to win the title. But that's only if Chelsea win ALL their games, which of course is unlikely

The maximum points Chelsea can reach is 96.

Maximum for utd is 95

Another 38 points takes us to 97

A win v Watford tonight means we need another 35 points and so on

Happy to be corrected

If we can win our next 3 home games plus see of Chelsea and the rags .i will start to believe .in Pep we trust

Done some research over last 10 prem seasons today (tell i'm bored) and found below:

2008 - RAGS, 27 WINS/87 PTS
2009 - RAGS, 28 WINS/90 PTS
2010 - CHELSEA, 27 WINS/86 PTS
2011 - RAGS, 23 WINS/80 PTS
2012 - CITY, 28 WINS/89 PTS
2013 - RAGS, 28 WINS/89 PTS
2014 - CITY, 27 WINS/86 PTS
2015 - CHELSEA, 26 WINS/87 PTS
2016 - LEICESTER, 23 WINS/81 PTS
2017 - CHELSEA, 30 WINS/93 PTS

The average wins needed is 26.7 and average points is 86.8.
Going off that we will probably need 28-30 points more max - so in essence 10 wins should see us home.
Bare in mind though this is the points total earned by the league winners, not necessarily what they could have won the league on (for arguments sake, Chelsea won the league at a canter last year, they could have lost an extra two games and still won the league).

I've gone back to 2010 and worked out that the average amount of points the second placed team gets is 80. There have only been 6 teams in the history of the premier league who've earned 85 points or more and finished second (one of those is in a 42 game league). The highest being United in 2012 (89).

Being incredibly conservative, I'd argue 90 points would be enough to win the league. (for Chelsea and United to achieve that they'd need 2.6+ points per game. We'd need 1.8 points per game).

My presumption is that we'll win the league on our 34th round of fixtures. Meaning Spurs away or Swansea at home depending on the league cup final involvement.

10 more wins out of 16 games gives us 92pts .. That will do it , but I want 96pts or more ( and undefeated)

To put more context into it, Chelsea have 17 games left, and are 17 points adrift, so they need a point more than us (averaged) every single game left, united are 15 points adrift with 16 games left, so pretty much the same equation, our drop off would have to catastrophic from here.

11 wins or 33 more points would deffo do it, because one of them would be hopefully chelsea(h), so you would think 95 would win it with goal difference accounted for.

89 I reackon is all we will need as teams around us take points of each other

On top of that you also assume that one other club will get on this all mighty roll so two things have to take place.

The most likely scenario is that the gap will stay as is on average till seasons end.

Again its far more probable that Chelsea and Manure and maybe one other side will end up somewhere between 78 - 85 points.

I am still very confident that 84 points will win the tile this year.

The last time two sides achieved more than 84 points in one season the side that finished third namely us fell short of 80 points and in 2011/2012 the only other time in its happened the side that finished third totalled 70 points.

We would have to throw this away, it would be the biggest fuck up in Premier League history.

I think 9 wins (89 points) will definitely win us the title and I wouldn't be surprised if even less, maybe 85 points, gets the job done. Record points totals would be nice, I think this side would very much deserve it, however the only thing that really matters is picking up that trophy at the end of the season.
