Yes. Having won 5 of the last 7 we've been there and done that. Remember when Swindon or Swansea won the League cup? Remember when Swindon or Swansea won the European Cup?

I think you overestimate the importance of the CL on that side. There will be more people wearing our shirts and thats what ultimately our owners want.

We need to be winning the European Cup about 3-4 times before it really starts to have impact on the player side.

A Hazard who, if we'd signed him in 2012, might have made a huge difference both domestically and in Europe.

I remember being 31 and would've gladly lost a limb to see us lift any of the major trophies so imagine the hilarity my former self would've found if I told him that in ten years time we'd been knocked out of an fa cup semi final and only have 3 trophies left to be in with a chance of winning at this stage of the season!

Change 7 or 8 players in starting line ups is not what you would call regular or even squad rotation. Its literally possibles vs probables , 1st team vs reserves. Its taking the piss . We were shite today, the team didn't gel or have any rhythm until the game was lost . Chelsea were made to look good. I can't remember one decent chance

Fully agree we were woeful for large parts, and agree with much of your post. Where I don’t is saying our manager was taking the piss. I’m never gonna have that, certainly not where this manager is concerned. The players need using. Steffen? Yep, back his use. Laporte? Yep. Cancelo? I’m not his biggest fan but many supporters have been raving about him for the last few months. Mendy? Has faults but can bring a lot to us going forwards and can make mistakes defensively but Zin played midweek and will most likely play re Villa (ie in two tournaments I rate above this one); Gabby? Yep, great energy & pressing and a decent finisher for me; Raz? Has been out of form but I am pleased to see him keep being given chances to turn it around. Torres, we bought him for a good reason, he’s in the squad, he certainly should not be tired, and again, he can finish.
I back the manager for making those changes a) to rest other players cos of the number of games & injury risk etc, and b) for motivational reasons, and because if one of those other players gets injured, we may need one of these lads to step up even more. Squad morale is important. I still have as much faith in the manager as I did yesterday.

Yea but my point is will be long time before the super stars come here. We wont be signing the likes of Mbappe etc if we win the European Cup, sure you have to start somewhere but at the same time the impact of it is bit overrated unless you have won it couple of times already.

We will still be able tosign the same players we do now even if we just win the League Cup.

The level where the very best and established players want to join us. The level where bigger sponsorships come in so we can bolster our wage structure and sign the top talent in their prime.

At the expense of winning the fa cup or league cup ? I’m a football fan not a businessman , tossing the domestic trophies off for some sort of fake kudos from the Champions league is not for me .
