How much do we owe to Yaya?

Yaya Toure had the presence, the charisma, the leadership, the talent and the arrogance we required when we were trying to break free from years and years of failure. He kickstarted the process to turn City into the successful giant it is today. Turned up in the semis and final to win the FA cup for us. Turned up against a high flying, champions league chasing Newcastle and scored 2 bangers to put us in the driving seat for the league title. I was devastated and fearing the worst when he was substituted against QPR. His absence was felt in the 2nd half that day but thankfully Edin and Sergio made that day one of the most happiest days of my life.

Yaya is an absolute legend of City, nobody can deny that. His antics denied him the status that Vinny, Kun and Merlin got with us. Still he had a massive influence in making City what it is today. We as fans can't and shouldn't forget his contributions to our club.

Plus, his song is one of the best chants to be ever made! Absolute carnage!
Shame to see another thread about Toure which to my mind seeks to cause division. We know there are fans who don’t hold YaYa in the same esteem as our other legends and I don’t see much point in taking about bloody cakegate and he calls Pep racist etc. obviously reading too much rag media. The post by Merlin is very good.
Very few of these “never mind the Newcastle away goals that took us so much closer to the title - what about the cake?” fans have any idea of the relationship between player and agent. For many fans there is a “but” with YaYa and franklyI don’t see it nor care. There are fucking loads of YaYas in Africa who will end up with no chance at pro football just like there are lads here but the difference is they can’t always walk into some alternative job - often street kids stay street kids. So the bond between YaYa and his agent is like father and son or even more devotional than that - the agent creates so much for the player (who may well be thick) that it’s no surprise the player is not going to slag the agent off in public. There is something of a racism bandwagon right now (writing as a non white) where every little thing can be called racist but often isn’t and this can really distract from institutional and personal racism which is actually going in. There are nuances behind a black man calling a white on racist and I think the truth is more around YaYas personality and relationship with Pep.
Finally, why not remember why we watch football and what we look back fondly on - we love and remember those iconic moments/goals which stay with us forever. Which if YaYas do you want to pick? There’s a top 10 you know. The rest of t to he offfield stuff is pointless.

Legendary player
Bit of a dickhead as a man
My mates did a fair bit of work at his house and let’s just say that contrary to popular opinion, Kolo was far from the biggest extra marital shagger

Joleon Lescott on Peter crouches podcast said it himself, when Yaya played well we won, simple as that and the players knew it. Mancini accused the rest of basically being a one man team when he didn’t play and with that and other things lost the dressing room. Yaya was one of them players that could grab a game by the scruff of its neck and win it with his own ability.
He was out for Everton away in 2012 and without him we were awful. As good as the others were, he was the man. I reckon Mancini lost his job that night with what he said to the rest of the team in the changing rooms.

Look at the QPR game: with Yaya on the pitch we were coasting, in total control and went 1-0 up with a Yaya assist and looked like we’d go on to win 3-or-so-0 easily but he got injured in that first goal and we went to pot without him and nearly ended up fucking it up.

‘Oh Yaya Touré, I think we should pay you some more…’

Yaya scored BIG goals, simple as that. The goal in the semi and the one in the final of the FA Cup. Not to mention the 2 he got away at Newcastle when we won the league. And the one he got against Sunderland in the League Cup final, plus all the others.

The guy was the best player on the planet for a year or so - fast, strong, genuinely 2 footed. He scored penalties, free kicks from 30 yards out with both feet, he tackled like De Jong, passed as well as Silva, dribbled like Foden and could finish like Aguero when he was at his peak. He would walk into this team now at his peak.

However, all that said, I really don't understand why ANYONE wants to denigrate an absolute LEGEND. No Yaya, no trophies in the early years. He was an absolute beast of a player and one of the best I've ever seen. I never hear United fans questioning whether Cantona or Robson was 'all that', whether Ferdinand was really a drugs cheat etc and the same with Liverpool and the likes of Dalglish and Rush.

Honestly, some people don't appreciate what they've seen, I'm sure of that. If you are a football fan or a fan of Manchester City then Yaya Toure was one of the best players we've ever enjoyed at the club and a LEGEND. He scored the goals which kick started what we have now, so get behind him and if anyone asks you how good he was, it's simple - one of the best you've ever seen, regardless of club.

YAYA = CITY LEGEND. END OF.
