How much is Ireland worth?

It all depends on who he would be playing for. If he had just had the season he's had in a Bolton or Wigan shirt, he would be for sale at around £20M-£25M.
If he'd done it in a rag or Liverpool shirt, you could add another £10M to that.

Come on, get real.

He was brilliant last season but it was bascially his forst outstanding season. You and I might know that he has always shown that he has got top class technique but in terms of setting a price for a player then someone who, to the outsider, could be a one season wonder and has done nothing in international football is never going to fetch £20m.

Gareth Barry has done it for years and is an established England international. Yes, he is older but he has gone for half your price.

Even Valencia, who I think we all agree is over priced, has had several solid years in the Prem and has regularly put in good performances against the best South American international football has to offer.

If he was being sold to one of the big four, with the premium that they pay, he would probably go for something like £8m-10m in my view. I discount ridiculous prices like Glen Johnson because Benetiz has a history of choosing to pay ridiculous money for average players. But even Johnson has a few very good Premiership seasons under his belt.

And none of that is to say that I don't think he is brilliant because, in my view, he should be one of the best players in this league for the next 5 years if he carries on.

if u saw my last quote u would probably know i was joking but the fact is after last season (and knowing hes training very hard, off his own back and not just at carrington) ireland IS in fact superman, and hes only gonna get better if he keeps training like he is, conclusion.............. IRELAND IS PRICELESS

Think about the sort of player Ireland is and how young, focused and committed he is to being the best. Then look at recent transfers without quoting "inflated prices", It's all about what the market is worth now. I don't think I am being unrealistic in my valuation of him.

As for your valuation of £8-£10M, I think that's laughable. He was going for not much less last season, when people were offering to drive him to Sunderland themselves.
SI has come a long way in a year and he will go even further IMO.

Another point, how much would it cost to replace him ? That is his true value.

I agree. I suppose it's where you set the benchmark.

The likes of Robinho, Ronaldo, Ribery, Kaka, etc are in a different stratosphere to most footballers and are not in scale at all, so I can't use them. Then there is the odd silly price like Glen Johnson or De Jong.

I think the Valencia price, although I still think it is a tad inflated, is a fair comparison. Whilst I'd much rather have Ireland, I would suspect, and it's just my opinion, that most clubs, looking for proven, safe investments, would be wiling to pay more for him, for the reasons I've stated.

Technically true, if the club decides to implement current cost accounting as a means of valuing assets :-)

I do love me some accounting policies.

when u put it like that 23 million but i would never sell him in his current form. in 5 years time i can see him being worth double that. and every club (in the premiership at least) will be after him but he is an asset to this club and will only get better, in fact im still going for PRICELESS

It's a big if but 'if' Superman continues his form and even manages to improve on it. I see him as being as important to us as Gerard and Lampard are to their respective clubs.
He is talented enough, all the squad say Stevie and Robbie are the ones who impress in training, and if he can do that on the pitch, I drool at the player he could become.

certainly agree with that statement mate. the connection between robbie and stevie last season was fantastic and i personally cant see that magic fading unless something happens with new signings, e.g robbie being dropped alot or vice versa (if the likes of eto and tevez come to us) cant see ireland being dropped tho tbh.
