You've got to stop doing this. GeorgeHannah is equally religious and does the same thing and neither of you understand why it is wrong.

I DON'T CARE WHAT OFF HAND COMMENTS SOME SCIENTIST MAKES.

Nobody cares what Einstein says, what Brian Cox says, what Isaac Newton says or what anybody else says.

Scientists aren't given authority like thta. Their authority comes from published articles showing the evidence. When you link me to one that Brian Cox has written then we can have a chat about the things he said and whether they hold merit. Just because he says something it doesn't make it any more or less true than your opinion
You have no idea how 'religious' this poster is or how 'religious' I am but I do find it amusing that you attribute a lack of understanding to anyone who points out the inadequacies of your own utterly discredited views on scientific method. The Cox argument about the impossibility of alien life is from his TV current series soon to be published as The Human Universe by the OU, It's actually a staging post to his view on a multiverse, but let's take his points at face value, in short he says there is no evidence for the possibility that the conditions for life as we have it may exist anywhere else in the known universe. Where has Cox gone wrong then Damo?

..and you should really refrain from embarrassing yourself with your philistine chant that nobody cares about what anyone says outside a scientific journal, it is really is most foolish.

Wait. So there might be other forms of intelligent life out there? That makes my statement ridiculous ?
Perhaps I should go back to church too, there might be a God.

Forget church, go back to school.

If you cannot see the difference then I'm not going to waste my time arguing with you.

You know what's even smaller? 2 teeny tiny men having a meaningless minuscule argument for absolutely no reason!
I am always impressed by someone who can spell minuscule correctly

Care to elaborate?

If you were making a joke, it certainly wasn't funny.
If you were serious, then there's absolutely no way you can know that, and there's a huge possibility your statement is wrong - hence it was a stupid statement.

Give over. I originally cast only my opinion and you were straight on it with the insults.

So please, don't waste my time or your own as I never wanted an "argument" in the first place!

I wasn't arguing. And you must know my ex wife ..

Only if, like you Banjani, people have blind faith.
Until there is any evidence to the contrary he is correct.

Interestingly Professor Cox agrees.

How am I showing blind faith?

He made a statement saying it's only us, I said he was stupid and ignorant for saying that as we have no idea yet.

He is not correct until there is evidence to the contrary. You cannot claim either way and know for definite.

It's a reasonable assumption that we are indeed alone in the galaxy, most likely the universe at this time as intelligent life.

In fact statistically you could not assume otherwise, considering the age of the galaxy and the glaring lack of evidence of intelligent life.

Enrich Fermi asked the obvious question, "where is everybody", and if you google the Fermi Paradox you can read the detail.

Perhaps those so confident intelligent life is so prevalent can resolve the paradox.

We have existed for to short a time to make such assumptions.
Even hitlers olympic speach has traveled next to no distance in the grand scheme ( our first radio beacon as it were able to reach far out).
Basically time and distance are the issues so statistically you can easily assume there is a reasonable chance of their being advanced life. The idea we can't detect it yet so therfore it does not exist sounds extremely ignorant.
The vastness of the cosmos at least leaves it at 50-50 minimum.

If advanced life detects us it is just a shame it will be hitlers voice they hear first.

To quote the film contact "it would be an awful waste of space"

pominoz made a science video thread last year. There are some space vids on it for anyone interested. The same video that started this thread was posted by some awesome poster in pominoz's thread ;)

pominoz, if you see this, how are you? Haven't seen you around in a while.

Yeah I know, but my I have a big brush full of tar and you were in the way slightly.

I can't very well just say that I hate how arrogant some people tend to be on here can I? Just blurt it out like that, that's not my style, usually.

i do know you won't be boarding the ship of fools anytime soon :-)

I'm putting this into the category of unknown unknowns

Yes, because advanced intelligent lifeforms will obviously be setting up radio receivers.
