How soon does Guardiola takeover?

Ha, the club have decided that our CL place is now at risk so they are loaning Pep to manage West Ham tomorrow and then he takes over for us at Swansea on Sunday!

That would just about sum up their planning of the last few months.

His contract begins July 1st.

I said that on the other thread - as it was what I had understood too - pointing out that it was good we now did not have to play a possible Europa qualifier in July days after he arrived.

That was what we had from the Cup win. But now guaranteed 5th = straight into groups in September - a big plus I thought given that start date.

But I was told on that thread that Pep takes over on JUNE 1st.

Not sure anybody knows for certain.

It's gonna take longer than that to get us playing how he likes. He's got to adjust to the Prem for a start. I'll certainly be giving him a years grace before I expect to seriously challenge for a trophy.
I think thats a valid viewpoint and an important point to make. We have a good team but its not a great team and its been chronically mismanaged. No magic wand is going to turn us in to cinderella overnight. Plus the Euros and copa america are a hinderance.

Exactly and that is one big plus of getting Europa instead of CL.

CL and we have to play a 2 leg qualifier in August right at the start of the season. As 4th is our best bet now presuming Arsenal do not lose to Villa at home (ha!)

Europa we go straight into the groups and Pep gets 4 or 5 free weeks with PL only to get something ticking.

I could imagine that he is in Manchester or that he is meeting with club officials today and/or tomorrow. The Bayern players are off for 3 days until Wednesday. Then the preparation for the last 2 Bayern matches follows. I think he wants to make the last match and Cup final against Dortmund something special.

I read somewhere that, although he's contracted from 1 July, he's expected to start full time from 20 June (4 weeks after the end of the German season). Seems about right. No doubt he'll be in regular contact about transfers by phone and have the odd meeting, but he's better recharging his batteries than hanging about the Etihad.
