How to dress for a job interview?

My mate wore this shirt to a job interview once (not joking). Believe it or not, he didn't get hired.

I think you probably don't need a tie in most circumstances nowadays

If its a dirty old man nothing or little as possible ;) nooo a nice suit or for girls smart trousers and top :)

Some companies are casual, some are not. Some interviewers will be impressed if you dress the way you want to, some will automatically rule you out. You cannot know what is in the mind of the people interviewing you, so trying to guess would be a gamble. The reason people advise a suit and tie is because it can only be a positive and in the worst case scenario it won't be a negative. Anything else might be disastrous.

So a full suit and tie is the ONLY safe option.
