How UEFA shifted the goalposts on FFP. The definitive story.

An excellent piece of work PB.

Thank you for the time and detail which has gone into the article, and explanations which make it possible to understand.

Thanks for your great work. I always look to you to explain FFP and the clubs position and this made it even more understandable. Thank you for taking the time to write it.

Fantastic article Colin which puts a lot of meat on the bones of something many of us were aware of but were struggling to understand.

I’ve said it recently but I find it astonishing how so many of these journalists who are all too happy to stick the boot into City regarding FFP didn’t try to research the wording in the club statement about the “fundamental disagreement” with UEFA regarding the pre-June 2010 contracts when we were originally sanctioned. If ever there was a clue that we’d been fucked over due to a shifting of the goalposts during the monitoring period then that was it. These people literally know fuck-all about the regs themselves or how they work, but worse still they’re not interested in learning about it as they’re only interested in slagging City off. Try explaining things like acceptable deviation, Annex XI, and pre-June 2010 contracts to these fuckwits or your average clueless opposition fan and you’ll be met with a completely blank reaction.

I’ll add that It’s a good thing that someone independent of City and highly respected - Swiss Ramble - can see all this for what it is.

Nice one @Prestwich_Blue

Has the journalist you referred to in the opening post acknowledged the article?
I have no idea and even less interest to be honest.

He threatened to sue me for defamation for publicly telling him he was completely wrong in his view that we failed FFP because UEFA reduced the value of the Abu Dhabi sponsorships and disallowed other income (which they clearly wanted to but didn't). He told me that by calling him out, I was inciting violence and death threats against him and his fellow journalists. So I really don't give a fuck what he thinks and, I believe, neither does the club. It won't change his mind anyway.

I have no intention of engaging with him ever again.

He sounds a bit precious, the truth hurts when it's outed fair play mate.

He sounds like he's 'up his own harris' to me!! Excellent article, as ever very informative and, more importantly understandable for us lay men. The timing of the changes made to Annex XI does raise questions about their motives. Presumably with City working closely with them with regard to FFP, UEFA would be very aware of our financial position and therefore perfectly aware of how to affect it.

Sounds like he needs putting in the boot and taking to the moors.
